Interesting Discovery

Postby MICrophone » August 11th, 2010, 10:39 am

So I was testing the final part of my LDC entry just now and was hit in mid-air with a bullet bill. Having only 1/8 of my power left at the time, I "died." However, as I was dying, because I was in mid-air and was hit by a bullet bill I bounced up a bit and managed to pick up a blue coin. To my surprise, I found that the blue coin restored my power to 3/8 and I was able to play even though I had technically died. The music was gone though. This ever happen to anyone else?

Happened to me a few times. The best reasonable answer I can think of is that once you die, the game treats you as though you are dead. But if you happen to regain some life before you go back to the editing screen, you'll still be alive. I know that doesn't make much sense, but it's the best explanation I can think of.

Its how the game is programmed. It happened to me once in Diddy Kong's Quest. Its becuase it runs the sprite, and waits for it to end then quit the level. But if something else happens interrupting the process, it will end it, thus you are still alive :awe:

No…moving has nothing to do it. If, however, after death you pick up a blue coin or an invincibility star or something (this, of course, does require movement), you are revived. But you can die while moving and actually have the screen return to the design screen while you're moving.

This happened to me once, (or was it Super Mario Galaxy 2...) It was in a really hard level, and an enemy had just hit me, leaving me dead. But in the process of falling, I hit a coin, bringing me life. :awe:
