Speedrun Contest Idea

So...

I wanted to get this idea off my chest:

What if we could start some kind of Speedrun Contest? Like, a new type of competition with brand new medals and possibilities? The best players would win.


Here is how I imagine this...

The host would decide on any level, in the Story Mode or custom-made from the LD, to use for the Contest. Then we could have a Speedrun Vault for the participants' videos.
So, we would need to find a recommended program or website for everyone to use so all could have the ability to record videos of their performances.

I am unsure how rules would go about, so I'd need assistance on that part of the idea.

Now, the way to win would be the fastest times completing the level. Simple.



This idea of mine isn't fully developed yet, but I really wanted to attempt to express what kind of new feature could end up being a popular(?) thing here.

Actually we've already discussed this before with the level mods. While it sounds great there are many disadvantages- one main one is that a lot of people don't have the programs they need to video their speed runs. There are others too though.

I wasn't expecting this to be a good enough idea. I would figure there are problems. It was something I felt I had to share, and I had also mentioned that the idea wasn't fully thought out.
But, it would be cool if we could do it. Maybe in the future we would be able to find a way for anyone here to be able to record videos and work things out.



Actually... maybe, and I do not know very much about Flash and how hard implementing things could be, Runouw could add a feature into the game that gives you an option to record your performance (I know some games that let you do this.)? If that does happen, it could solve this problem.

I highly doubt Runouw would release such an update. He's busy with LL right now. This is a good idea, though. It reminds me of the time I did a 100% speedrun of the game; if I remember right, it turned out to be about 3 and a half hours, not including the cutscenes.

I could have thought more before posting that.

I am very well aware that Runouw is quite busy with LL, and in fact reality as well. An in-game video recorder is indeed a whole lot to ask, but it is an idea.
There is a slim chance for any update to SM63 either. But... you'll never know. There was that Flame Tower & Thwomp update, and they weren't exactly NEEDED.



Anyway, as I was typing that, I just thought about something unexpectedly...: it may be less restricting if there were a topic just for showcasing Speedruns. It could involve users that happen to have the required equipment to show off their skills, and the other users could just sit back and enjoy watching the videos.

Well actually the flames and thwomps were added because Runouw was planning to add them before but never did because of the rush in finishing the level designer. It's a nice idea that has been brought up before though but still I'll leave this topic open for any comments.

PLUS the reason he did end up adding them was because he needed to adjust the game to the new LP.
