Super Mario 63 for Android/iPhone/iPad

Postby JStunn » November 2nd, 2013, 10:23 am

Ok I know it's been like 4 years since SM63 was released but I've been wondering, wouldn't it be cool if I could play it on my phone? I tried downloading .swf versions of the game and using SWF players from the Play Store to play it but the game was extremely laggy. There are no ".exe players" that I've heard of. So maybe if SM63 was made into a .apk/.ipa format, would it be playable? Or the game can be converted into a ROM(preferably GBA or SNES). All I would have to do is download and install an emulator, and play the game with (hopefully) little to no lag. I know it would be impossible to do all that work of converting the .exe, so it would probably never happen... what do you think?

SM63 is a pretty badly optimized game, but if you were able to play it (although laggy) I'm sure it's possible if Runouw optimizes it or that thing Suyo was doing a while ago happens.

Wouldn't there be some kind of legal complications if SM63 was remade for mobile platforms?

Definitely I would commend this decision but obviously Runouw never does anything with SM63 anymore.

You're right. Maybe the .apk/.ipa can be "accidentally" leaked...? Runouw could leave a download link for the .apk on the game's page. After all .apk files can be installed without the help of the Play Store. Then again all of that seems a bit farfetched. So I guess that leaves the ROM option. The game can be made into either an entirely new ROM or into a ROM patch.

Yes, I'm sure Runouw wants to remake the entire game from scratch with an entirely new coding system when they're busy with Last Legacy and real life. /heavysarcasm

If I knew how and Runouw didn't have a problem with it, I would probably fix a few issues I have with the game. Not necessarily porting it to Android or iOS, but just little things that bug me personally. Spelling/grammar mistakes, for example, as well as other little tiny problems.

But back on topic, I'm pretty sure there'd be some legal issues if there was an Android/iOS port. Just like how there used to mockups and speculation about if the game was released on Nintendo stuff, like the DS or Wii (Personally, I would love a 3DS port, but that'll never happen).
