Does the game actually save? When was the last update?

Postby XirmiX » May 20th, 2014, 9:04 am

So when I played this game a LONG time ago, I REALLY enjoyed it, BUT there were a few things wrong: If I played a downloaded version this happened: I saved my game and everything and then when I closed the game it deleted ALL my progress.

If I played online this happened: I had to make sure I entered the game every 24 hours, else it deletes all my progress.

So, my question is: does this still happen, if so, then: "Cya, nice game but I'm not going to play it if at the end all the progress blows away like ashes!"

Yes, the game does actually save. It saves your progress on your browser's cookies, so if you delete those you'll lose you're progress. I'm not totally sure where it saves in the downloaded version, perhaps someone else knows.

How about if I play the game straight from this web? Is it gonna save? Will I have to come every 24 for it not to delete my cookies?!

Straight off the web saves it on the cookies, so yes. You won't have to come back every 24 hours, just make sure your browser doesn't delete your cookies.

As an alternative, there is a cheat you can use in case you keep losing your progress. Type "cheat" (without the quotes) on the main menu (with the three options) and click "Toggle shine sprites on star map". Then when you load your game, just pause, open the star map, and click the shine sprites and star coins you've collected before.

I feel like if you moved the game to a different folder or cleared temporary files, it deletes it all. Appdata stores all temp files as well as Macromedia client saves.

The problem with saves is clientside. If you clean history you usually erase cookies doing so, so you need to look into those settings. If you defragment or use an antivirus this usully interferes as well.

I recomend using a personal computer. If you use a public one such as in school or libraries, you are SOL. Dont use someone elses PC, Or ask them not to delete te history.

It isnt the fault of the game though.

So yeah, my progress got deleted, probably because my dad was cleaning the computer. Where can I download the game? The first time I downloaded the game and saved my progress, it deleted everything when I switched the game off and on again, so how do I stop from that happening?

You can download it at http://runouw.com/games/sm63/sm63game.exe.

You'll probably need to find where the download version saves your game and make sure it doesn't delete it when you finish. Or, as I mentioned earlier, use the Toggle cheat to get the Shines Sprites and Star Coins you had last before you lost your progress.

How do I make it so it doesn't delete it? Any tutorial?

Locate where the game saves, play a bit, and save. Close the game and re-open it, then check if the save game is still there.
