Super Mario 63 100% Speedrun in 1:36:27

Hi ! =D
My name is Sekanor, and I want to show you my speedruns of this game.

I really like this game a lot, I was playing it casually until I started to speedrun it (~8 months ago). At first I was creating levels (I might redo that one day, not sure). But when I discovered the speedrun "communauty" of this game (well it's aren't big lol), I decided to try myself. I liked it, so I continued. =)

I think this game is really cool to speedrun, it has many interesting things and it's really fun to optimize in my opinion.

Me and some other people (mainly frogyfro, who stopped the game, and TheMilkMan47 who is still running the game) discovered a lot of things. You might already know a lot of glitches though.
We found some glitches to finish the game faster (for example, the double-rocket, which consists to start 2 rockets from the ground, to jump wayyyyy higher and skip some parts).
We even discovered that the game is finishable without using Rocket & Turbo FLUDD. It was even faster at some point.

Anyway, let's talk about the speedruns themselves.

Super Mario 63 100% Speedrun in 1:36:27
In this run, I collect all stars and star coins of the game. This is the coolest category of the game imo, 'cause we are playing the whole game and not a small part of it.
This speedrun is improvable by at least 6 minutes (my goal is to get a time under 1h30).

Super Mario 63 Speedrun in 9:06
In this one, I'm simply finishing the game in less than 10 minutes, without collecting any star coin, and only collecting 1 star (yeah this is quicker x) ).

I have done a run where the goal is to finish Super Mario 63 without using any major skip (by Major Skip I mean enter Bowser Trap #1 without collecting 8 stars, or enter Bowser Trap #3 without collecting 32 stars...). I did it in less than 40 minutes.

So, what do you think about these speedruns? =)
I really wanted to show you them so you know some people are actually doing that ^^

Great job man. I love watching these, especially with familiar games and all the glitches speedrunners discover.

Dang, good job. I think my last attempt at a 100% speedrun was like 3 and a half hours or something, heh. Didn't record it though. It's been too long since I played the game to be honest. Speedrunning would definitely be fun. I wonder if some day we can get a run of it in GDQ, though that's unlikely. Kaizo Mario got in though, so there's a chance.

I'm kinda disappointed there was no sound on the video, but I assume you turned the sound off to reduce lag?

Sadly you did it probably as fast as I could just use the cheat to activate all 64 shines/coins.

You must be reallllly slow at pressing keys. (and really you could say the same thing for any other game that has any form of a speedrunning community)

I was unaware this game even had any sort of competitive following outside of the site. Is there a site where you talk about all these neat exploits and techniques you find?

That second run looks impressive. It also reminds just how easy the escape level was with those coins. I haven't watched the first one mainly because it's not something I'd want to watch as soon as I wake up, but just reading that you've 100%'d the game in a bit over an hour and a half leaves me in a bit of awe.

Unfortunately, the game doesn't have the same charm it had on me four years ago, so I think the most I'll do is observe for now. Good luck shaving those times down!

Just watched that any% speedrun, and wow. You guys must really know a lot about this game. Some of the glitches you used baffled me a bit, like that pipe glitch in Bowser's Trap, though I'm aware that with a flash game there's bound to be bugs and limitations.

I think someone already tried, it got rejected =( But someone definitely need to try again, it would be cool!

Well I was livestreaming the run; nobody was watching => I didn't know there was no sound =( But I fixed this ^^ There will be sound when I'll improve this run.

We have a leadeboard which is here [Leaderboard!] , which lists every glitch we found and all the times for the game =)
This leaderboard is basically the main place for this really small communauty.

Yeah that second run is really optimized compared to my 100% run (well 100% is longer so that's normal I guess).
About escape, yeah it's not that hard when you get used to it. However, every speedrunner of this game hates this part =p It's really tricky to do it fast, I had to practice it a lot.

Also if I could recommend one run, I would link this one:
Super Mario 63 Hover FLUDD Only Speedrun in 9:19
This speedrun only uses Hover FLUDD. The route I am using is really different from the classic one, and it was really fun to play with it =) It's entirely based on glitches, it's a different way to beat the game ^^

Thanks ! Yeah at first I thought there weren't a lot of glitch, but I was wrong. =)
