Question about the downloadable version

So I have played both the online version and the downloadable .exe, but I have really bad performance issues when maximized with the .exe version. Playing the online version fullscreen runs perfectly well. I would like to be able to launch the game through steam so I can make use of my steam controller, but I need the exe version for this. Is there any fix for the slowdown caused when making the game bigger?

There's a fixed version of the game on http://www.speedrun.com/sm63 that should work way better (click View Rules and the download link should pop up).

I was going to say even the fixed version didn't run well when maximized, but it actually does work pretty well. You might want to unmaximize it for some of the laggier parts of the game, though.

Thanks I'll try it out.

Edit: It works fantastic, thanks. Is it normal for the game to hover around 30 FPS though? Also is there a command line parameter to force it to start fullscreen?

Yeah, the game's fps isn't 100% consistent. It should be roughly 33 FPS most of the time. You can make the game go full screen with ctrl+f

Oh well, I can live with 30 fps (60 would be really nice though). I was wondering about fullscreen because I'll be playing it off of my TV with a steam controller, but I suppose I can bind ctrl+f to a button it since I can't get it to auto start fullscreen.

The game actually runs at a lower or higher speed depending on the FPS. If it were 60 FPS, it'd be running at double speed :P

Ah, I guess that makes sense considering it did feel half speed with the first .exe I used.

The game was made and published around the mid-era of Flash gaming, and it has quite a few bugs here and there. Even on a newer system you'll notice a bit of stuttering and some lag, because it hasn't been optimized since release, and the only more recent update was to add fire pillars/Thwomps, plus tweak a few things that wouldn't affect the game too much.

If it were pushed into Java or some other language, it might be easier to pinpoint the problem, but it's Flash, and I'm still trying to learn how to reverse engineer it.
