So I was bored and decided to play some SM63. I was doing five silver stars on Tall Tall Mountain. I got all five stars, and then went to get the shine sprite, but at the precise moment I grabbed it, I hit a shy guy, and the shine sprite vanished but I did not actually get it, meaning that I was still in the level and there was no shine sprite to grab. I guess this is somewhat similar to the hit-an-enemy-as-you-activate-the-shine-sprite-and-you-die glitch in the Level Designer, but I've never seen it quite like this before. Anyone else get this ever?

EDIT: Turns out that I was credited for the shine sprite even though I didn't exit the level. I went into another section of the level and then came back and the shine sprite was there again, but it was blue. Interesting to note…maybe if I can pull it off again I can get two shine sprites in the same play-through of the level.

I can't recall precisely when or where, but I believe this has happened to me before as well.

The exact thing happened to me a year ago. I was getting a red coin shine and I landed on a goomba, and the shine disappeared. But I looked up on my shine count, and then it suddenly changed.
Cool glitch, though.

Shine sprites always come back blue if you've gotten them.

Right, but usually you first return to the castle, and then if you reenter the level and go for the same shine sprite it will be blue. This time, I was not returned to the castle…the shine sprite simply vanished, and when I went to another portion of the level it came back, it had now reappeared but was blue.
