Well, this is the definition of win. It's basically a SMB remake, where you can play as
Mario (SMB, Alternate Skin Demon)
Luigi (Plays like Mario, but jumps higher and has looser controls)
Link (Kinda like Zelda II (I think) Alternate Skin Dark Link)
Samus (Metroid, Alternate Skin Dark Samus)
Simon Belmont (Castlevania, Alternate Trevor Belmont)
Megaman (Megaman 3, can charge buster at Mushroom. Alternate Protoman and Rock)
Bass (Megaman 10 DLC, Alternate Skin Dr. Wily)
Bill Rizer (Contra. Alternate Skins Lance Bean and RD-008)
Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden. Alternate- Haggle Man)
SOPHIA III (Blaster Master, Alternate Sophia J7)

The alternates play the same as the other form. Luigi doesn't have actual Alternates, but many different styles.
