Calling all game designers!

There is a Discord channel for this. If you want to keep up to date, discuss ideas, and show your contributions, go there.

Title's a little misleading, basically this is to anybody who's interested in making a game.

I've been thinking about this idea for a while, and I've decided to give it a shot. I'm not confident about many things, but I'm confident when I say this: everyone in this little community of ours is talented, in one way or another. We like to make and discuss artwork, music, stories...maybe we could put our talents together and create a game. A proper, professional game.

Now, this isn't aimed at everybody. What I'm aiming for (at least) is to have a small group of people with some experience in game designing, or something related to that. And when I say 'related', I mean anybody who can draw, sprite, hell even create good characters and a storyline. For communication, we've got Discord, which is easily accessible to everyone and most people here are already familiar with it, so we can discuss ideas and help each other out.

I'm honestly not sure how popular this idea will be, but if you're willing to help in any way, and you think you'll have a little bit of time to spare, please say so. Obviously it'll be helpful if you list what you think your strengths will be, and also if you have any programs that will be useful. Ideally, these are the main things that'll be needed, and will probably require some software:

  • Artwork (This could be concept art or sprite work, for any component of the game)
  • Sound (Read: the soundtrack)
  • Animation (Animating the characters, aesthetics, and whatever else we'll need)
  • The game itself (Basically putting everything together)

I've recently purchased a copy of MMM 2016, so that's one person already who can work on the soundtrack. Let's make this happen!

Game designing is definitely my thing, so I'm interested, yes. But to be honest, my spriting isn't exactly too good because of how lazy I am when it comes to smooth animation (which is something most professional games will need). My music composition skills suck, I tried MMM and honestly I can't even figure out how to "arrange notes" manually.

However, I do have at least 6+ years of game design experience, but what I can help with mostly depends on the genre. I prefer retro stuff (mainly platformers). If it's a genre I've never played, then I doubt I could help.
Besides, said experience is all on plain old Game Maker and its GML. Sometimes RPG Maker

Even if you're not too good at something, consider this an opportunity to improve those skills.

I'll create a list in the first post of people who are involved.

I'd like to lend a hand. I'm a decent visual artist, rather unsatisfactory musician and lazy programmer. If you can take someone like me, I'm in.

But... what would the game be about?

I was actually hoping you'd be on board.

As for the game, that's something that's up for discussion. Since a lot of people are (hopefully) going to be involved, we're probably going to have several genres to pick from.

Considering this is probably gonna be a first for everyone involved, I'd suggest that we start small. Something simple.

where my programming at

just kidding, I know like java and a tiny bit of python, and java is basically dead now so I'd have to learn something completely new

edit: I could potentially try to do music but no guarantees on quality. It'll all probably be chiptune too, which might be gross to some people. But it'd be cool if we could get a variety of music styles

First they took our flash, then they took our java. In the end everyone was happy.
