Super Mario Galaxy: Flash

Postby brandoprojectm » June 16th, 2010, 12:47 am

Well, here's the official announcement for my new Flash project, SMG: Flash! Let me start of by saying that WarioWare is by no means canceled, it's just that I failed in finding a dedicated artist to help me with it, and with SMG: Flash, there's no need for one since I'll just use sprites. Here's the official info:

Will be 2D, although some parts will let you walk into background
foreground, implement many powerups and ideas and concepts from SMG &
SMG2, like suits, gravity, stars, all that. Engine will be similar to SM63's, but more
refined, and circular gravity is present. Also, will use different sprites.

Returning Suits: Bee, Boo, Fire, Ice, Drill, Cloud, Rainbow. Yoshi returns, using mouse pointer to control toungue. Ground pound
and triple jump added for Yoshi.

New Suits: Space - lets Mario traverse Zero Gravity areas, and has a
rocket booster with limited charge
Bullet Bill Suit: Lets you fly around like a Bullet Bill, explode on
contact with enemy. One use.
Lightning: Use mouse pointer to shoot bolts of lightning to kill
enemies, activate things that need electricity, press--> twice for
lightning dash

Control scheme: Use arrow keys to go left/right, forward/backward,
double tap to run, pick up speed, use ZXC to crouch/ground pound,
spin, and jump respectively. When on circular planets, use right to go clockwise and left to go counter-clockwise. Sometimes can change to mouse control scheme to use Yoshi and Lightning Suit, then the picture of a computer mouse will show. Mouse moves star cursor, left click shoots star bit/shoot powerup/use Yoshi's toungue, right click jumps. AWSD replace arrow keys, Q crouch, E spin.
For laptops or tricky computers, can also use (F, R, I dunno, must
figure out which is more comfortable) for jumping. Can use mouse as
star cursor and star bit shooter at any time.

Story: After the events of SMG2, Mario returns home for a much needed
vacation. One night, Mario has a dream where Rosalina tells him that
she needs his help. Bowser used his dark magic to absorb Rosalina's
powers after capturing her. Bowser used his newly grown powers to
create 5 clones of himself, each with special powers, to guard the
keys to different areas of his castle, which is explored in the final
mission, and all of these keys combined open Rosalina's chamber. The
Lumas, who managed to escape, have created a fortress of their own,
and becon Mario, Peach, and the Toads there, where they will be safe.
They also created a one-man rocket that Mario can use to launch into
space and navigate the worlds. With every Grand Star he gets, the
Lumas are able to install a more powerful booster, letting him get to
a new World. World map is similar to SMG2's map, but with SMB3
elements. Luma fortress is Hub World. Around the middle of the game,
Bowser clone 3 tries to invade the fortress and kidnap Peach, but
Mario arrives just in time.

Intro Level: After Rosalina reaches out to Mario in his dreams, she
takes his through the dream world to show him Bowser's plans, all the
while teaching him the ropes along the way.

Planned Level Designer might be released separately. Similar to SM63's as well, but
will allow for customizable gravity, no gravity at all, black holes, simple objectives to activate stars,
and programmable NPCs such as Lumas, Toads, etc.

Stay tuned for more details, help appreciated. Concept art to be released soon.

Not yet. Maybe for different colored Yoshis, though. But later on.

EDIT: I've changed my mind. Since the only decent sprites I can find are Superstar Saga-like, this game WILL be visually equal to SM63. Here's some example sprites.

GREAT! I like the characters, there have many, maybe you don't need so many!

I think that the star (Luma) is the best,, they are cute.

The Blimp Yoshi idea is good , The yoshi is very fat and funny.

What's the Rosalina use for?

Ice mario is good, but maybe too many actions?

Well, need more stuff?
