there are a ton of different things to use. For starters, you can use a nice little thing called an instrument...
Okay enough sarcasm, for mac users Garage Band has some fun loops to play around with for a day or two...If you have an electric keyboard, they are good for a variety of sound affects.
Really, making music is just using your imagination.

If you want to make sheet music, you could always download a trial of Finale. I played around with that for a while (until my trial ran out), but I have a Dell, so I don't have any Garageband.
Signatures are silly little things.
