Request albums for review through a PM. I'll listen to the album, give a detailed review, and decide it's score. Don't worry if you think that I won't like your kind of music because I'm going to approach these reviews very openly. Thanks:)

Album Review/Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
Requested by Mr_Saxman

Now, let me just tell everyone who will read this that I am not the biggest fan of jazz. It's mellow and calm, but for some reason, it seems overly repetitive. But after listening to this album...I may just convert. (Calm down, Sax!)

Track by Track

So What - A track that seemed to me to be a little redundant after a while. This is one of the best on the album. It's mellowness drew me in, so I'm guessing if it works for an anti-jazz kid like me, it might just work for anyone. 8.7/10

Freddie Freeloader - This song reminded me of those really long songs that old ladies play at malls. Background music. Sorry, but it's just not clicking for me. 7.8/10

Blue In Green - This song is kinda beautiful. Slower and harmonica-driven, it's more that just jazz. It's from the soul. 9.1/10

All Blues - It reminds me of spring, but I'm not sure why. This is a great song. Long and soothing, I'm surprised I like it! 9.3/10

Flamenco Sketches - A nice song with a kind of slight Latin twist. Very calming and mellow like the album itself. 8.5/10

Flamenco Sketches (Alternate Take) - The same song with slight instrument changes. 8.5/10

Sparking the flames that caused a new era in jazz music, Miles Davis's album is a hair short of a masterpiece, if not one in other eyes. And this is coming from a guy that never listened to jazz.

FINAL: 8.7/10

Album Review/Sigh No More - Mumford & Sons
Requested by MessengerOfDreams

Image

Folk music has always been close to my heart, so this should be quite a good review...but can this breakthrough band make the cut in my book? (Vocals are also being put into the picture this time around. Very simple procedure: Can they or can't they sing. Loss of .5 review points if the answer is no)

Track by Track

Sigh No More - Minimal banjos and other string instruments accompany chilling harmonies in this spectacular opener. But there are much greater things to come. 9/10

The Cave - One of the 3 singles on the album, featuring energetic tempo changes and good lyrics. 9.5/10

Winter Winds - Another single. This song is utterly beautiful with the harmonies between the band members. 'Nuff said. 9.7/10

Roll Away Your Stone - The song has some great energy and the lyrics, as always, are pretty well done. A good song. 8.8/10

White Blank Page - At first this song may be a little bit of a downer. But after a few listens, you begin to appreciate it all of it's explosive glory. 9/10

I Gave You All - Calming and sweet. This song is not as shiny as the other tracks...but it's alright. The chorus can be quite chilling though. 8.6/10

Little Lion Man - A single and by far the most catchy song on the album. Power in the music and the lyrics. 9.2/10

Timshel - Harmonies, harmonies, harmonies. Not the best background...but the harmonies! 8.3/10

Thistle & Weeds - Good but not great. One of the weaker songs on the album. 8.2/10

Awake My Soul - Tender and beautiful, this song strikes me somewhere deep. 9.1/10

Dust Bowl Dance - A piano-driven song, which provides some variety to the string instruments present in the rest of the track. One of my favorites. 9.8/10

After The Storm - Not a bright shiner...but it's still nice. 8/10

This album embodies pureness. And while Sax's jazz was soothing...I can't leave behind my folk music. Worth the buy for sure. Mumford & Sons shocked the alternative genre and thankfully, they've done something wonderful to the decaying music industry.

FINAL: 9/10

You're right SHS:)
I wasn't a big fan of Sax's suggestion, but I was as honest as possible without straying too far from my indie roots.

Album Review/Caravan Palace - Caravan Palace
Requested by Highwire

This dizzying combination of jazz and techno had my head spinning. Honestly, I had a lot of fun listening. Let's go Track by Track!

Track by Track

Dragons - Got me bouncin'! Pretty upbeat, nice but there's more in store. Great starter. 9.1/10

Star Scat - This song is so cool and collected. Robotic voices and strings kept me replaying! 9.3/10

Ended With The Night - Not feeling to excited about this'n. A little bit of a downer compared to the first two. 7.5/10

Jolie Coquine - This song is quite trippy. I like it:) Not as cool as some of the others though. 8.6/10

Oooh - Lol, sexy music. Hahahaha! Not to exciting, but pretty enticing. 8.2/10

Suzy - I'm guessing this is their single. It's pretty sweet, combining a pounding beat with some scatting and jazzy tunes. 9/10

Je M'Amuse - Good, not much I can say, because it's quite similar to the others. Nice techno-synth breaks! 8.6/10

Violente Valse - More classical than most of the songs. Feels like I should be in Italy eating some SPAGHETTI. 8.1/10

Brotherswing - The vocals on this album are really fuzzy...and I can't decide if I like that or not...this song is ok. 8/10

L'Envol - I like this one :D 9/10

Sofa - This is a chill tune man!! 8.7/10

Bambous - I don't really like the screamy thing on this one...hehe. Other than that, the strings are exciting! 8.5/10

Lazy Place - Didn't expect much out of the title. I was sort of right. 7/10

La Caravane - This one isn't bad either...hmm. 9/10

We Can Dance - JAZZ HANDS! 9.3/10

Some of the songs are a little bumpy. But no album is perfect! I'd like to thank Highwire for requesting this. It sure brightened my day:D

FINAL: 8.5/10

Thanks for reviewing it, Jelloman! I'd tend to agree with you about Lazy Place and Ended with the Night. Those two were a bit less upbeat than the rest, but I love the hell out of the album. Awesome job with the review and song breakdowns, though! Looking forward to more out of this thread!

Album Review/Surfing With The Alien - Joe Satriani
Requested by Avolerators

80's synth rock album review COMMENCE. (Keep in mind that this is ANOTHER instrumental review.)

Track By Track:

Surfing With The Alien - an upbeat and epic romp! My hopes we're high after listening to this! 9.6/10

Ice 9 - A little slower, but still, DAYUM. This guy has talent... 9.1/10

Crushing Day - This song seemed a little generic to me. A bit of a letdown. But again, I must emphasize that this dude can kill llamas with his guitar skills. 8.5/10

Always With Me, Always With You - Good, but not at the caliber of the first two songs. 8.2/10

Satch Boogie - Yay! This one made me happy. That is all. 9.2/10

Hill of the Skull - Woah. Creepy-ish. I like this one despite it's lack of speediness. 9.1/10

Circles - I prefer squares...but this song may change my minds... 8.6/10

Lords of Karma - Meh. Good, again. It gets better toward the middle. Keep shreddin' Joe. 8.3/10

Midnight - Different from most of the album...but definitely not in a bad way. 8.7/10

Echo - Slow, laid back tune. A cool ending. But I was expecting a big bang. 8/10

I'm really enjoying exploring new types of music guys! So thanks for PM-ing me! Great album, BTW.

FINAL: 8.7/10

I knew you'd like it! Midnight and Satch Boogie are both great. But I'm not saying this entire album isn't great. It is! Anyway, thanks!
