What are you currently watching/reading?

Postby Oranjui » June 13th, 2015, 1:08 pm

Simple. Same idea as What Song Are You Listening To? and Right now I'm Playing, but with other forms of media, such as TV shows, films, and books, or any combination you want. Of course, this also includes anime and manga.

Rules (edited from THE ♥♥♥♥ TASTE THREAD):
1. No Tennis - Wait for at least 2 people to post before you post again. (also how can you even finish a series that quickly)
2. Respect Other's Choice - You may not like it, but no bashing. You can express your distaste, but I don't want any full scale arguments here.
3. Spoilers Kind-of Allowed - Don't put any spoilers in your main post, but you are allowed to include them as long as they're in [spoiler] or [is] tags.

I'll start off:
I'm currently watching Orange is the New Black season 3 (and holy ♥♥♥♥ this is one of the greatest shows I've ever seen and you need to watch it) and I'm reading Othello obviously by Shakespeare which is pretty good. Also, my english teacher next year wanted us to read How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster, so I'm reading that as well and it's actually not bad. I'd recommend it if you're interested in the subject.

Watched and finished Orange Is The New Black Season 3 Friday-Sunday. Season 1 and 2 were definitely better because, but I liked season 3 as well.
Also, the new (season? break?) season started for Steven Universe. It's very similar to Adventure Time and Gravity Falls in the way that it's not just a plain kids show, but it has an amazing story. The songs are amazing, the stories are amazing and heartbreaking, and all the characters are super interesting and likeable, bad or not.

Here's the song from the latest (as in yesterday not today) episode. It's an extremely sad song if you've seen the past episodes.

It happens very rarely that I read an english book, so:

Categories for the Working Mathematician by Saunders MacLane

It's a book about the most pointless and most esoteric discipline in mathematics, about categories and arrows. That's a lovely thing to read because my usual imagination of sets, groups and other algebraic structures is totally turned upside down. There are things like "universes" and "large sets, which contain things, but they aren't sets", but obviously there's gotta be a deep philosophy beneath this foolish appearing theory, which allows to define complicate things such as the tensor product with playful facility.

Thank you, FF.

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

Today I watched Cinderella

I had nothing to do today then I thought "why not watch it"

I would rate it 7/10. It is decent, for a Disney movie.

But what really surprised me was the transition in the beginning, where you see Cinderella having a really amazing life until she loses everything she had, only to have a miserable life towards her stepmother and her two "sisters". That part was the most shocking of the entire movie. The rest of it was meh.

Lately I've been trying to make sense of Sein und Zeit. It's super old philosophy, but it caught my months back.

I just started watching Gravity Falls. Way better than Fineas and Ferb. The first season was funny and good, but the others suck. Thank God it was cancelled 2 months ago.

Recently caught up watching Gakkou Gurashi, and holy ♥♥♥♥, that was amazing. The best anime I've watched so far (I just watched this one). I gotta say it was pretty painful (all my emotions died in the process) but I would watch it again. Please watch it NOW.

October 4th, 2015: Just watched Flashpoint Paradox, and it was amazing. I had already read the graphic novel but it was extremely refreshing and just as amazing to watch as it was to read. If there's ONE piece of superhero entertainment I could recommend you to watch, it'd be this. although i doubt anyone will give it a chance cause no one likes what i like :( A similar storyline is planned in The Flash so that's neat too.

February 7th, 2016: I started Game of Thrones on Friday, and I've just now finished the first season. I have to admit it didn't pull me in for a large portion of the season, but holy ♥♥♥♥. One single scene filled me with stress and made my heart beat which is exactly what I love in a show.
