Awesome solos:
Tip #1 - Fast is not necessarily better.
It's great if you can play fast, but if you're playing the same three notes over and over again then it really is kind of repetitive. Speed is not good unless you've also got technique in your solos. And oftentimes you can create more effective solos by taking it slow depending on the song you're playing…usually the best is when you mix slow and fast solo sections.
Tip #2 - Know your scales, modes, and arpeggios.
This will help give you a lot of variety in what you're doing. You should know your major and minor pentatonic scales, your natural major and minor scales, your harmonic minor scale, all of the modes, especially dorian and mixolydian modes, as well as arpeggios, such as natural minor arpeggios. Also, diminished runs are good for certain things. Mix and match all of these things (where it makes sense - obviously don't play a major scale if the song your playing is in a minor key) to build a really effective solo.
And yeah, I have two albums which I've made myself which I've posted on the forums if you want to check them out. The links to them are in my sig.
