Advance Wars Series 1-3 Soundtrack Review

Postby MessengerOfDreams » October 23rd, 2010, 10:22 am

A short sentence or two review of every character, (or Commanding Officer)'s music. This game is known third for its cool gameplay, second for awesome characters and first for brilliant music.

Let's start with the best of them all.

Jess
It's really hard to identify the genre of this. You can see this as rock, industrial, a bit of folk, and you may be able to envision someone rapping to this. It's a bit odd to the gallant Jess's character, but who cares? O_o But it's awesome. The beginning notes are really catchy (sounds like someone building a car to me O_o) and every passage has awesome chords and extreme detail. This makes it my number one video game soundtrack. :)

Jugger (whoever the f**k that is)
This is very quirky, and since Jugger's a villain, this isn't very good villain music. And the notes seem to all mesh into a pile of lump.

Grimm
The chords are effing awesome, and the other elements of the song help round it out. :) I don't know this character, but if the song is any definition, it's epic. :)

Hawke
This music, like the character (the primary evil and good guy) is total BA and mysterious. Not much more to say than that.

Sami
Meh, too cheerleaderish for my tastes and for someone as tomboyish as Sami. I feel like I'm in a pep rally. :/

Sonja
Well, at the very least, this fits the character. Sonja's the type of character that fights wars with a cup of tea and a notebook, and this definitely sounds like tea in a posh country club. But I'm sure that when you play this, you don't imagine people getting in epic fights to this yawn music.

Drake
This music is very amusing. It fits the bighearted yet bumbling pirate's character, and the drumbeat is really cool too.

Jake
Character- NAILED. This guy is a rocker who speaks in surferspeak, and this sounds like something he'd listen to in those headphones I wish I had. There are a million different elements, chords and sounds in this song and with the exception of the second long flute solo, they all mesh brilliantly.

Adder
The first thing you think when you look at that is O_o. And you instantly get this creep's creepy character. And the music definitely has a creepy feel. But it's total headbanging tunes.

Andy
The main upbeat protagonist of the game, this music follows. The chords are nice, but ultimately a bit forgettable.

Post 3 contains more. :) Damn you URL limits.

Grit
One of my favorite characters, this laid-back country boy has the most true-to-character music out of the game. This is a song for every taste, and my only beef with this is that it's not really fit too much for a war game.

Eagle
This song is underwhelming. This is a BA character with BA powers and a BA hairdo and they gave him This? It bores me, and it doesn't suit the character at all. Although he is a bit of a d**che, so I guess he should get this as punishment.

Javier
This is an amusing knight stuck 10 centuries after his time. This is an amusing frantically fun song in the perfect timing. I visualize a wacky circus.

Nell
Not so much a playable character as a tutor that annoys you with the basics everytime you start one of the 3 games, this music you could enjoy as dancing music if this didn't play through all of the tutorials in the first game and some in others.

Kindle
The middle section of this music is where it shines. Kindle's a fake posh b*tch who cares more about her looks than her soldiers. And this music is sorta posh and sorta like the other villian's music.

More coming up!

Colin
This music is kinda weird... it fits the character (the youngest and richest and most awed commander) but... it's weird.

Sensei
Music's really fun, one of the most enjoyable tracks in the game. While Sensei's character ranges between bored and collected to fun and laughing, it captures all of the emotions.

Lash
Ringtone anyone? Seriously, though, while stripped down, the... what is that... xylophone... beat is sure to range in your head, and is a fit to the overzealous and crazy semi-villain inventor.

Kanbei
This music fits the character too well. It's trying to scream "THIS GUY IS A JAPANESE SAMURAI!" when we can figure that out on our own. It's not very memorable, either, and as much as I like the character, this isn't one of my favorite soundtracks.

Olaf
This guy is a pompous snow-lover. As if the over-the-top trumpets and the sleigh bells weren't enough of a hint.

Koal
From what little I know, this little f*ck's kind of a zen master... only evil. The music is subtle and enjoyable, but has little substance.

Flak
Meh. It's not very good. It's boring and dumb, like the character.

Max
This is another character fit. It totally sounds like muscle/workout music. It just packs a POW into it.

Sasha
Does this girl even know there's a war going on? I think this girl just sits around listening to classical pop instead of doing her job, if this music is any precursor. It's so unfitting to the game. (Oh btw, a bit of trivia, this is Colin's sister)

Rachel
Why do I feel like I got transported to the end credits? This music is very cool and almost uplifting, but it's so much so that it should have been the ending music. I can practically see the end credits rolling by.

The main villains round it out!

Von Bolt
The villain of the 3rd game. Don't like the music.

Sturm
This guy was the villain of the first two games, and he was pretty villainous. The music wasn't quite evil enough but it was catchy.

And there you have it! My review of the Advance Wars Music!
