Rounding to the nearest hundredth, here are everyone's scores.

~MP3 Amplifier~(disqualified for not fitting the theme)

M M M M M MARIO: (4.83+9.17+7+7.5)/4= 7.13

Chessplayer: (6+13.5+13+11)/4= 12.125

Bread: (12+13.5+13+9)/4=12.38

skjung2034: (12+15+14+17)/4= 14.5

In 3rd Place, only behind second by half a point...

Starking & AwesomeJFRD!
(14+17.5+16+17.5)/4=16.25

In 2nd place, trailing 1st by about .4 points...

Volcove!
(18+16+16+17)/4=16.75

Which leaves only one person left for 1st place...

Doram!
(19.5+16+16+17)/4= 17.13

Thank you, all of you who decided to make a level. I would've preferred more, but you take what you get. Starking, AwesomeJFRD, Volcove, and Doram, if you're not content with simply a trophy, feel free to ask me for some picture of whatever you want. I WILL finish it, no matter what. I give up on a lot of things, but for this, your prizes get my full attention(or at least most of it.)

To boot, here are my judgings:

nin10mode wrote:M M M M M MARIO
Part 1:
Fun: 4/10
An average red coin scavenger hunt level. Nothing special. I don't like how all the enemies are all in one area though. Put a few in the buildings.

Graphics:3/5 Fair. Could've used more plants or decorative items. Some minimal water cutoff. Try to make them line up so they don't overlap.

Other:2.5/5
-.5 You forgot the invincibility star.

Part 2:
Fun:3/10 WAY too easy for a boss level. It actually got easier after each round. If this was intentional, wtf? o_O

Graphics:3/5 Again, average. Th boss design was... interesting, to say the least.

Other:2.5/5
-.5 Forgot the Shine Sprite.

Part3:
Fun:3/10 Cutscene level? Could've been longer. Harder, too.

Graphics:2/5 Flat! The goonies and clouds looked nice though.

Other:2/5
-1 I didn't know you had to drop down to get the shine sprite. Add a Red coin or silver star so the camera shows me where to go.

Overall: Very average. You probably could've combined those three together. -.5
Score: 7.5/20

---
skjung2034
Fun:8/10 Fairly challenging. I like how the platform isn't just a platform. The Cheep-cheeps tried to jump at you to hurt you, and that was a really nice effect. One problem is that last red coin Underneath the final floating island.

Graphics:5/5 Block rain, plants, tiles, you got it all. Everything fit perfectly with one another. Majot props for using the disabled level transitions. Not many people try to do that. The fonts, as well.

Other:4/5
+1 Tuvalu-exclusive plants
Score: 17/20

--
Doram
Fun: 8/10 I liked that there were two paths to take. I took the upper one first. The water maze is harder than the sky quest, so amybe you could've done something to even it out?

Graphics: 5/5 Awesome. The cutoff tiles actually work in your favor. Also, the snow tiles and clouds blend well together. Sometimes, the clouds will be behind the water though, making it look less appealing. But that's the game's fault, I understand.
You took risks and they pulled off well. The actual beach is fine as well. Lots of slopes and plants.

Other: 4/5
+1 Riddle/poem
Score: 17/20

--
Chessplayer
Fun: 6/10 A so-so level. Short, easy, blah blah blah.

Graphics: 3/5 No cutoff, but nothing too great, either.

Other: 2/5
-1 slight lag. Lay off with the enemies a little.
Score: 11/20

--
Bread
Fun:4/10 Very plain. Nothing bad, but nothing good either. There's only a little bit of water. Doesn't fit the theme "beach" very well...

Graphics:2/5 A lot of the tiles are flat. Use slopes, too. Makes it look a ton better. Also, you have a few plants and decorations, but enough to be noticeable.

Other:3/5
Nothing extraordinarily good or bad.
Score:9/20

--
Starking/AwesomeJFRD
Part 1:
Fun:8/10 A fairly challenging level. I died once and was too lazy to restart. :P I like that you guys made the Rocket Fludd have an actual use. It was very well placed in the level and made it seem less linear.

Graphics:5/5 Superb. Although you attempted to make cool looking trees, some of them ended up looking a little funky, though. For example, the palm tree in the beginning.

Other:4/5
-1 Quite laggy in the Cave of Secrets
+1 Block enemies
+1 secrets

Part2:
Fun:8/10 HARD! I like it! You timed the swimming race just right, the hints for orientation were specific, so you had to have a decent memory. The maze was a bit bland, though.

Graphics:5/5 No problems here. All excellent.

Other:5/5
+1 Good checkpoint system
+1 Lightning storm challenge
Score:17.5
Can't wait to play that third level. Don't worry, I'm not taking points off for it being an incomplete series. Levels with cliffhangars are awesome.
--
Volcove
Fun: 8/10 This was very unique. It was a fairly short, but the idea and atmosphere of a beach being torn apart by that mysterious force is going to be very memorable. This level makes me really curious what happens afterwards. Cliffhangars are always enjoyable.

Graphics:4/5 The cutoff and chaos worked in your favor. I liked that it was the same place, but different each time. It really felt like that thing was tearing the beach apart.

Other:5/5
+1 The somewhat bad ending makes this really different from normal levels.
Score:17/20
I hope you can make an epilogue level of some sort for this later, cause it's a very interesting level.

Re: 13th Level Designer Contest

Postby Yoshi Boo 118 » July 5th, 2011, 10:31 am

Lol the top 3 winners were the people I gave the highest scores too. Well good job everyone. ^_^

I'll post my scores in just a sec. :P

Judgings: show
M M M M M MARIO-The Beach

Total: 7/20

Fun: 3/10
The game play…wasn’t so great. Mostly, the parts were all too simple. It didn’t look like you put much effort into giving the levels a challenge. There weren’t even that many items around, just some coins and enemies. I would’ve liked to see more in part two than just some easy rooms with moving blocks to jump over. Try to add more blocks and items to add challenges to your level.

Graphics: 1/5
There were no plants whatsoever. Maybe a few coins here and there, and the Sand Goomba looked okay, but there was nothing impressive about the background at all. You need to add more scenery.

Other: 3/5
Nothing too good or bad.

Overall, I think you need to improve your levels a bit. Add more graphics, and more items for a challenge, and you can be on your way to making good, creative levels.

Skjung2034-The Islands of Tuvalu

Total: 14/20

Fun: 7/10
I think this level was pretty enjoyable. I liked the scenery and the rain effect at the start, and the idea of trying to get to the top of the islands to escape the flooding was good as well. But maybe you could have added some more difficulty, seeing as the level was fairly straightforward. Overall though, the level was fun.

Graphics: 4/5
I really liked some of the things you did with the graphics, such as the tree of life and the tilting to make it look like the plants were damaged. Maybe just add a few more plants on the sandy tiles? Also the mansion tiles looked weird floating above the 1-up trees…

Other: 3/5
Nothing special with the level.

I think this level was well done. With a few changes to the graphics and some more obstacles, this level could become even better.

Doram-Impossible Treasures

Total: 16/20

Fun: 8/10
Ah, how I liked this level. For one thing, there where 2 completely different areas to explore! I had to look at both of them, and I liked the multiple paths to choose from. The signs with riddles on them were funny, and going underwater to the caves and to the sky for two shines was exciting. You did a good job on this level.

Graphics: 4/5
The walls fit perfectly with each other to make a pretty cave and a nice sky. My only complaint is that the level would have looked nice with some more plants and trees when in the cave and on the ground.

Other: 4/5
Nice job with the rhyming riddles and the Mario accent at the first sign. +1

Overall, I liked this level a lot. By adding some more graphics this level could be perfect.

Chessplayer-The 5 Islands

Total: 13/20

Fun: 7/10
This level was pretty fun. Having choices of either Red Coins or Silver Stars is always good, and different paths to pick is even better, The main thing that bugged me here was the lag, because of all the enemies. Add a transition or reduce the number of enemies so the level isn’t as laggy. But still, the level was fun.

Graphics: 4/5
The graphics were good as far as cutoff was concerned. But it might have been better to add more than just one tree on each of those little islands. Adding more plants will improve your level’s looks.

Other: 2/5
The lag bothered me in the level. -1

This level is good, but could be made better. With some transitions and more scenery, this good level can become a great level.

Bread-Island Drift

Total: 13/20

Fun: 6/10
This level was good, but it seemed too simple to me. Just going in one straight direction and you make it to the shine. I did like the placement of enemies to jump on them, and the switches and platforms were also fun. If you add more places to go and explore, the level will become more exciting and fun. However, the level wasn’t half bad.

Graphics: 4/5
Nice job with the cutoff, since there wasn’t any. But some more plants and objects would help the level look better, as some places had more scenery than others.

Other: 3/5
Nothing special.

Overall, this level was nice, but it could use a little improving. Adding more paths and background graphics could help spice up the level, and make it an excellent level.

Star King and AwesomeJRFD-Survivor: The Parts 1 & 2

Total: 16.5/20

Fun: 8.5/10
Nice job with the level! Part one looked really nice, and all of the challenges and areas that you had to go through were well executed. There was some lag when I was in the caves, though. That was pretty much the only trouble I had. Everything else was fun, with all the challenges to do. Part two was also exciting with even more challenges and more places to explore. This level series was well done.

Graphics: 5/5
Part one looked very pretty, with all of the plants everywhere to make the background scenery look wonderful. Same with part two. Nice job with no cutoff too.

Other: 3/5
Had some lag in the caves. -1
I liked the little worm creatures in the lava, looked cool. +1

Overall, this level was very well done. Just get rid of the little lag and it will be perfect. Good job.

Volcove-Secret Beneath the Sands

Total: 16/20

Fun: 7.5/10
This level was fun to play with. I like the idea of having to search underwater beaches to find a Shine Sprite hidden around. Maybe a little too simple for my taste, but still enjoyable with the enemies and ways to explore the islands. Good job.

Graphics: 4.5/5
The area looked pretty, with just enough plants to look like a good beach, and it looked nice underwater too. Maybe it could have looked a little more pretty with more plants, though.

Other: 4/5
The underwater monster and the rocks falling down was a cool effect. +1

Nice job with your level Volcove. If you could add a pinch more scenery, and maybe add more ways to explore, the level would become even better.

Hah! Doram just beat Volcove. Best moment ever (no offense to either one of you- just that Doram, already pretty damn good, beat a legend. High five!) Yeah, I apologize for not finishing my level due to circumstances... but, really... it sucked. Laggy as hell and rushed as it too. Ah, well- ladies and gentlemen, I'm running the 14th! Expect it up by Friday! (right guys?)

Re: 13th Level Designer Contest

Postby Zunar » July 5th, 2011, 11:41 am

Here's my scores:

Zunar's 13th LDC Judgings: show
M M M M M Mario-
Part 1:

Fun: 2/10
Graphics: 2/5
Other: 0/5

-1 for laggy beginning
-1 for being lazy and copypasting dialogue
-1 and very low score for not completing level

4/20

Part 2:

Fun: 3/10
Graphics: 1.5/5
Other: 2/5

-1 for glitchy transition
-1 for cliche fake bosses

Level was very short, and not very entertaining to play. It seems like you just threw it together. Also, if you climb to the very top of the pyramid at the beginning of the level, you'll go through the transition but then you'll die from a glitch. You might want to fix that.

7.5/20

Part 3:

Fun: 1/10
Graphics: 1/5
Other: 1/5

-1 for laziness in adding from default level and not changing terrain.
-1 for having to risk falling to your death to actually beat the level (come on, that's very cheap)

Level was not fun. All you had to do was risk life and limb to reach ground that you're not even sure is there, and go to the right while avoiding a bunch of enemies. On top of that, the terrain is EXACTLY like the default level of the designer: flat. LAZINESS AT IT'S FINEST!

3/20

Skjung2034-

Fun: 5/10
Graphics: 5/5
Other: 2/5

-1 for lag

I can tell you put a lot of effort into making this level look pretty. However, the level is impossible to beat because of an impossible-to-reach red coin.

12/20

Doram-

Fun: 10/10
Graphics: 4.5/5
Other: 5/5

+1 for multiple missions
+1 for creative poems

VERY nice work! I see you poured a lot of time and effort into this level. There are some spots with cutoff, but it's not much. The level was very fun; it was kinda suspenseful trying to reach a blue coin before I drowned, and that was fun. I ALMOST didn't look for the second mission, but then I remembered seeing some clouds ande thought "Hey, does that lead somewhere?" Sure enough! Also, I LOVED your poems. They were very creative, and very good too.

19.5/20

Chessplayer-

Fun: 3/10
Graphics: 2/5
Other: 1/5

-1 for lag
-1 for laziness

First off all, the level was VERY laggy. It was always below 10 FPS for me. That's gonna hurt your fun rating pretty badly. Second, the islands were all the same terrain-wise. That equals LAZINESS, the greatest hurt of all.

6/20

Bread-

Fun: 6/10
Graphics: 3/5
Other: 3/5

Pretty good, to say the least. I died several times, but I see that you put time and effort into the level. Good job. :)

12/20

~MP3 Amplifier~-

~Removed due to level not sticking to theme~

Star king and AwesomeJFRD-

Part 1:

Fun: 6/10
Graphics: 5/5
Other: 3/5

+1 for cool title
-1 for lag

I can tell you guys put in a lot of effort. Great job. :) However, the level is too big; it takes forever to load. Also, the room with the Shine Sprite was laggy, and that's gonna hurt your score. A laggy level is just not fun, you know? Anyways, good job. :)

14/20

Part 2:

Fun: 7/10
Graphics: 4/5
Other: 4/5

+1 for cool title

You guys put a lot of effort into this one, too! Though, same as last level, it takes forever to load. Great job otherwise! One complaint I have is that, in the storm, there is a row of grass tiles between two rows of sand, and it looks weird IMO. Also, there is no reason for the first checkpoint because you can just skip the three challenges and go straight to the final one if you know the correct path. The second checkpoint was very handy; thanks for putting that in.

14/20

Volcove-

Fun: 10/10
Graphics: 4/5
Other: 4/5

+1 for checkpoint

Great level, dude! I can tell you put tons of time and effort into this level. The only complaint I have is the floating water. It's just... floating there, and nothing is below it except death. Otherwise, great level! Also, thank you for putting in the checkpoint! It really helped me get through the level.

Congratulations to everyone that participated, and excellent work to the winners! All medals have been handed out. Sorry I couldn't manage to enter this time even though I wanted to. Unfortunately I was still in school around half the contest (before the deadline), and I was using most of that time to study for exams. Then I guess I just got lazy.

I promise though, I'll really try to enter the next contest, which is apparently not too far off. :awe:

Admittedly, I'm surprised I even got second. I ran out of ideas about halfway through, and it felt lackluster compared to my previous submissions.

Congratulations to everyone else, and thanks for hosting.

@ nin10mode - Maybe for the next contest if the theme permits it.
Will do sporadic level reviews on request - PM if interested. I will only do one level at a time. I tend to be rather critical.
