…It’s time for me to announce Runouw Votes!
How very exciting. Hope you’ve all had an uplifting, eventful 6 months? You have? Good good. Fun Fact: Can you believe last time this was announced it was freezing cold winter and we were all suffering from painful chilblains? Well, except those lucky people from the southern hemisphere, where it was their boiling hot summer full of painful sunburn.EDIT: Deadline for the second poll and voting on the nominees you chose August 1st, 2012, 11:59pm PST.

And since we have many new members thanks to the opening of the new level portal by Runouw, I can’t surely carry on as normal, because the truth is most of you probably don’t know a thing about Runouw Votes. So let me explain:
How does it all work?
It reeeeally could not be simpler. Seriously.
All we do is you’ll have a list of categories and you fill in the spaces for each one with the name of the member you think deserves that rank/award most. After a good number of weeks (or by the time we think enough people or everyone has voted) we’ll stop the nominations and bring on the voting round! A list of names most popularly chosen for each category will be named, and then our very own Chau will set up a poll for you all to vote in (this will take place over the space of about two weeks, plenty of time for people to get in their votes). And when the day comes for the poll to finish and be closed down, I’ll rush in there with a rocket and find out the winners and post them all up in a rather snazzy results post, as always.
(by rocket I mean you won’t have to wait too long for them, hopefully… :3) And then whoever wins each category will win our incredibly beautifully golden shiny (or run of the mill) Runouw Votes trophy! Take a peek if you like: show
No new categories have been added and old ones taken out this time round; everything is pretty much the same as last term. Though a few other minor changes have been made with the nominations round in particular. I’ll go through them with you now:
The Most Notable Site Friendship (Fist Pump) has been changed slightly. Because in January this year (when the last RV ceremony took place) there were huge groups of members being entered into this category, and the winning group turned out to be the largest of the lot. After re-examining this issue, we (the F23 folk) decided it would be best to shorten the amount of members entered into this category down to 2. After all, this award is really just awarding those members on the site who have a real noticeable bond among the forums, and 2 seems a fair enough number for it.
There is one other change- category descriptions. We think that, because of the many new members here this time round, that it could cause a lot of biased voting towards members who have been around the forums a lot showing their true colours in this past month only and would end up ruling out the people who have all along been showing their true colours throughout the whole time from January till now, but just not as brightly as the others. After all, those members should be recognised too, and Runouw Votes is about which members have had the biggest impact over the last 6 months. So, category descriptions means that for each and every category you must give a reason (can be brief or extended, but it must be a valid and decent reason) why you chose to give this member the award. The same goes for the award Best External To Site Media (Outside Influences), which is the only award here that doesn’t give members a Runouw Votes award. (unless perhaps member/s have done a good amount to keep this alive on the forums or provide support for it) This system will hopefully prevent biased voting, or just randomly picking the most popular members. It’ll make you think about who you’re voting, and for those newer members, it’ll make you do some research on the forum history, which can only do good than bad.
EDIT: I think category descriptions would only appeal to the newer members. Mainly because a lot of moderators and members who were here last term understand how the forum works and the people on it and often know the history better. Though of course still make the effort of descriptions in the more important categories, and this should apply to everyone.
And once again, whoever you vote for in the Mastery in the dark alley (Member with hidden talents) award, you must as it says, CITE A RESOURCE (so what hidden talents they may have). kthxbai

So, after some other changes to Runouw Votes this half-year, we (MoD and myself) have decided instead of leaving the categories that the mods decide the nominees for until the beginning of the voting round like usual, we’ll do the voting and polls for them now! So if you’re one of those people who thinks “Yeah, I’m gonna nominate some people and then come back in a few months to see the results” then this is not your cup of tea and biscuit, because the results to these categories will be announced mid-way through the ceremony!
