Edit: Also, you guys expect too much from me and honestly I think that's why you were so hateful on my level. At least next LDC I'll go back to my usual style and idgaf what you think about it ._.

I started perfect. People don't want to give me infinite gold medals though.

Anyway, the amount of sarcasm and joking is equal to the amount of attitude and unprofessionalism in this thread. I'll play the levels myself and see if these are worth what everyone seems to think they are worth.

MessengerOfDreams wrote:Okay, looks like I'm spending Christmas eve defending my beliefs on where production and judging ♥♥♥♥ the pooch. But hey, I does the crime, I does the time.

If you said such a shocking comment, you should expect to explain it.

1) I think everything up until the deadline went smoothly, so props for that.
2) But you never ever ever just go out into an LDC and say "I played so and sos level. It sucked." "Especially before the results, especially when you're a judge, especially when you lead the LDC, and especially so offhandedly rude. Nwolf should have kept his mouth shut until after the LDC and everyone else shouldn't have hoped on that train with him. Not only is it unfun and unprofessional to just start ganging up on someone after they finish their level, it's even more so before results are announced. I don't care if it was a contender like Amp or a last-placer like koolkid, it's not okay. Ever.

I agree here. It was a mistake saying that/

3) I certainly didn't help things by pranking N with the results. Bad me. Baaaad.

I trully agree with that. It was very sporadic and had no constructive purpose.

4) There were definitely problems with judging. One, just because you traditionally don't like some elements in a level doesn't mean you should automatically let it cloud your judging. If you're not a fan of puzzle levels, don't punish a level for being a puzzle level. This has been a constant, famous problem within judging, such as SMIC punishing for levels not having enough puzzle, and Star king for levels not having coins or 1ups or even Buff for not liking story level. If you don't think you can let personal bias go while you judge, DON'T JUDGE.

Yeah, I agree to a point. But at which point cut-off or enemy spam can also be considered "bias", yet the large majority of judges take point for that. But mind that finding judges that like EVERYTHING is not that easy. Specially with those kinds of problems. Only 5 people have applied to judge, and it was not easy to choose for Nwolf. If you Amp would have liked to judge, she should have offered herself (sorry Amps). I thought that was how the judging system works. And if it does not work, then if should be re-thinked.

5) You don't actually give people tons of points for praising Nwolf! He was joking! Even if you found it funny, it doesn't constitute two whole points! That's ♥♥♥♥ and when you take that ridiculous bit out or lower it to a reasonable point five points, you knock down poor Kaboom several places. The fun and graphics part of the level and the enjoyment therein should be the primary gathering of points.

Yeah, I agree.

6) Quit being so vague. From a good amount of judging I couldn't tell what people liked and disliked about the level. "It was odd", "It was ehh", or "It looked off" don't give people the slightest bit of critique.

Personally, I did not recieve complaints about that, although I can see what you are talking about. I think judges should have taken more judge to develop more.

7) Don't hire a new judge without testing them with a couple of judging. I don't know why Arceus was so low, but I don't know if he was properly vetted, and he needs to be. He hasn't properly proved himself capable of a position, and I did the same with Nwolf and others.

Yeah, I agree.

8) Amp, don't give out medals before we are clear on everything. Places look to change and only Suyo only has the ability to delete medals.

Bah, it is not trully that bad. Good point though. [/quote]
9) Don't flip your ♥♥♥♥ just because someone isn't happy with you. Good luck with that Anti-MoD campaign, now that, you know, I have no position of power.

This is not related to the LDC itself. He said he WAS NOT going to do the Anti-MoD campain, he just said he was tempted to do so (aka: he was angry at you). Some people are more sensitive than others, MoD. And I think that is where your real blame goes.

It is not what you said, but the way you said it was incredibly obnoxious and offensive. You should have just made this post to begin with.

Honestly though, if that makes a bad LDC, then I think we have a problem. Really? Man, scores are always biased. They come from subjective judges, because they have tastes and stuff they like more than others. Of course, in this LDC they were a bit too much subjective.

Seriously, what makes an LDC is the effort and the people that work on it. I agree the judging could have been better, I am not saying this LDC was perfect. I am saying that this level had good stuff to make it up. And in the end, it was an LDC people had fun with. The fun kinda went away the furthest when you started to say this LDC was a faillure, that is was badly managed. That is what really made this LDC suffer. You made people feel bad, and that ultimately killed the purpose of the LDC.

We are not proffesional. We are not proffesional judges or LDers. You should accept mistakes from people and not attacking them like you did. I know you made a long list, but none of the points (except 6) ) really bothered me through this LDC.

Merry Christmas.

You see, some previous LDC's ran fine. They were handled somewhat professionally. No spoilers, no early opinions. It's supposed to be systematic. The entrance period begins, and people make and post their levels. The deadline hits, entries and entrants stop, and the judges work covertly/in private, other than a few progress reports. People post about their expectations and the results suddenly come and the judges talk with entrants about their levels. That's what makes a cleanly run, efficient, and fun LDC.

You could say the same about staff positions if you are serious about professionalism. Why are a bunch of moody teenagers mods? Well, because we're not exactly moody and we know how to be professional.

I know, and I agree with the first part. It was not ok that so much data was revealed before the results. I fully agree there.

The truth is that at some point this is kinda an overreaction. People make mistakes, it is ok to try to correct them but the way MoD started to do so was not the right way, and that was the unprofesional thing.

I agreed with most of the points MoD had made, but in the end, I just think that he was being too rough on people. We are not profesional meant another thing. Not that it was OK to do all that, that it is important to accept mistakes and not overreact towards them. Which was what happened. If people end up being ofended, then the LDC did not work. However, if some problems happened in the judgings, that is not close enough to declare the LDC a faillure. People had fun and that was what mattered. At least that is how I view it.

Brb thumbing up MoD's post.

About the medals, the reason I did them was because:
1. I thought I wouldn't be back for 2-3 days to do them, but oh well here I am apparently. :>
2. I trusted that the scores would be accurate since Nwolf had calculated them on Excel, and that's usually pretty accurate.

If I need to I can ask Suyo to delete all the medals I handed out yesterday so I can start from fresh.

Also, while my reaction wasn't great to those 'disappointment' comments towards my level, I still agree it was unprofessional to give that opinion before the results.
Seriously, not only did it really affect my self esteem, but I wouldn't even be allowed to hear the proper constructive criticism until the judgings were posted anyway. So that really bugged me, as you could tell.

I don't recall anyone in the 20th LDC saying how ♥♥♥♥ some of the bottom scoring entries were there (well, not until after the results were posted), and some of the bad quality was pretty damn obvious there.

/rant

Anyway I think I'm done, and in all seriousness, HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS :D

Well, you cannot expect me to know without saying that. Now my mind has changed a bit. Still, I believe the overall reaction towards this was not the best one that could have been said. Again, not because the points were not valid. But because it was not said the correct way.

I know and I did not think while doing that, but thanks (seriously, thanks) for pointing that out :3

Also, thumbed up MoD's post because I ♥♥♥♥ can and it made me less angry

And I did check the judges. I know myself, saw already how pat judged and asked Arceus to send me at least some of his judgings he had lost. Mega... well, I could have said something but I somehow didn't. Something got in the way and I forgot, so yeah, blame me for that.

On a slightly different note, don't expect the 23rd LDC till around January and maybe February, but that all depends on how the host gets on.
(has nothing to do with this LDC's disaster btw, that was always going to be the case, lol)

Still the theme's interesting so I think the majority of you will like it. :3
