FIRST PLACE IS MIIIIIIIIIIIINE *quadrupleshot*

Maybe the Undersea Castle has the longest SM63 code with 80 KB and 81337 characters, but the length wasn't the main problem why I sucked last time. Also I don't aim for having a long code, but variated tiling, and the decoration blocks in the roofs etc. comes up with a rather long code.

Loading time basically depends on how much décor is in the level, as my level for the duel against Yuri is only 300x55 grids large and yet it has a longer loading time than the Undersea Castle. The city is huge, cause it's rather angled and it's built the way that you can follow your instinct no matter which path you go. The second act (Palace/Factory/Fortress whatsoever) will be smaller, I promise.

Thank you, FF.

Nan's sig! From the previous Secret Santa event!: show
Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

~MP3 Amplifier~ wrote:Having the largest level code ain't a good thing...it just means you've got less room for your post, or perhaps no room if it's that huge.

I agree with that, actually; it was only an impulse to bring it up, though. :3 (triple j, cut it with da impulzes)

And I could have sworn there wouldn't be room to post it on the Portal [as a thread], but apparently there was still enough room, somehow. Heh.

Triple J wrote:The Essence of Time took up 60+ pages on Word, in font "Times New Roman," size 8. I thought it wouldn't get accepted on the LL website, but it did, thankfully.

Can you beat that? :p

But that's in LL. In LL codes are usually longer, because of all these trigger codes and crap.

In SM63 it's probably different. My longest code (SMA World 4 - Hanmeus' Castle) is just more than 9 complete pages with the same settings, and 68,141 characters long. It contains 2 blosses, a whole bunch of bullet bills, one snake platform, two versions of the same big room and 10 versions of a tiny room (for a puzzle) and rotating blocks and flame throwers everywhere, and is 982 tiles long. In SM63, I doubt it's possible to go that further without crashing, so I would say 10-15 pages is like a maximum for a playable SM63 level

Anyway, like MP3 said, going for the longest code isn't the best idea. Remember the first rule of Level Designing: Quality over quantity. Buff won the 20th LDC with a Pure-Platformer, crushing two huge level series, one of them contained the level I mentioned above

I'm fully aware of that, I just was too "lazy" to say it was for LL. :p

Just as I have responded before, I also agree with MP3. Frankly, I was getting increasingly nervous as the page length kept building up and the level code too - I began to fear I wouldn't be able to submit all the hard work I made. T'was pretty relieving to find it wasn't too long a code to submit it. (Heck, I should be more careful expressing myself, or at least put more effort into my posts.) (...If I can.)

@Nan: Wait. You bribed me? For the gold? I thought I was giving out shiny Cookies.

While you people keep there fighting for the gold, I'll fight for my bronze. For real, it'll be really lame if I win again.

Oh, and one question. Would some kind of civilization with ancient buildings count? I'd still try to keep the urban environment though.

As long as it looks like something similar to an urban area, or at least appears plausibly urban, I don't see a problem.

SK I hope you don't mind that I use some particular building patterns from your Neon City

My city has a discrete style (I hope) and isn't supposed to be a Neon City rip-off but some buildings from there look really nice

There is like literally an infinite number of more original patterns you could make but okay

Also I don't mind, not sure about judges though
