1: Cloudy Temple in the Sky
Gameplay:7/10
First off, real talk: That first signs bothers me. It bothers me a lot. I spent a good 30 seconds looking for a way to read it before I gave in and waited until after I completed the level. And what does it say? NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Moving on. I greatly prefer the outdoor platforming over the indoor platforming. Mixed with a far greater risk of death (basically nonexistant indoors), and much more space to move around in, it's just more enjoyable for me. The 'challenges' certainly were what you described them as (the speed run especially so), but I feel like it could have been accomplished more creatively if you gave yourself a little more room to design in. In your mind, narrow corridors might have been a good challenge (and hell, I might be the only one not really enjoying it), but to me it's a bit of a nuisance. It's a shame too that you decided to repeat that gimmick later in the level. I have to give you credit for changing it a little with the FLUDD, however. Tapping C and spinning is at least slightly more invigorating.
Outdoors, your level had some pretty spot on platforming segments though. You use a lot of the items effectively and as intended (I can't recall the last time I've seen someone use tipping logs effectively) In between these specks of great and questionable platforming though, there isn't anything that sticks out to me as interesting. A lot of the ideas exhibited in these in-between parts feel like they're there simply to be there. The cannon around the beginning, for example.
There difference in difficulty between in and out is unfortunate in my eyes, and I was disappointed that you didn't intertwine the two in any way. Some of those challenges might have done better in an outdoor setting.
Scenery:3.5/5
Graphically, I'm torn. On one hand, the out curves of your terrain look natural and serve as platforming restrictions well, but on the other hand, they're filled with strange holes and geometric patterns that takes away any serenity that I once admired in it. I saw the faces you made in one instance of the level, but it didn't immediately occur to me that that was what they were. Giving it a background(with some sort of darker moving block) would differentiate artificial patterns from natural terrain. Next is a minor complaint, but spotted jungle ground should be sparse. Now, you didn't use it for every single block, but the amount used and how evenly they are spread is still jarring. Condensing them in other some areas and leaving some areas vacant looks more natural.
Inside, I have similar words. For the most part, you're very conscious about your color, and some of the patterns are something that I really appreciate (mainly your square/grid patterns), but occasionally, your choices completely baffle me. I'm not sure why you used a combination of cave and bowser tiles when cave tiles would have sufficed and kept the palette small. I don't understand why there's so much white and red in a predominantly blue and dark area. The holes you have suffice because the background is already cloudy. That fits well enough. You introduce dark blue steel when there never was, and it hardly ever pops up again. The confusion only multiplies in the final indoor section, where there are cabin blocks, brown bricks, indented bricks, metal boxes, metal mesh, and dark stone. My advice to you is to stick with a simple palette for every separate area, if not for the whole level. In this case, sticking with blues and greys would have been fine. There's too much chaos.
Item usage was, for the most part, standard.
One more minor thing is that I feel like you used the small square rocks ineffectively. If you had simply hidden the dark undersides of them, I would like them much more.
I liked the disabled pipes, however.
Misc: 3
+1 I greatly enjoyed the alternate music you provided. I listened to the LDC-only track while playing it because I didn't want to spend the time switching tracks, and it certainly helped me stay in a positive mood. I understand the relevance of your choice to your level to boot. The other songs were nice and fitting as well, and it reminded me of BowieZ's SMB remixes (I believe he too, tried composing for Newer SMB).
-1 There are glitches that allowed me to skip some of the more difficult parts of the level. I dove as soon as I hit the platform of the speedrun section and it sent me up above to the second red brick challenge, and occasionally, I would hit the red bricks and not be brought down below. In these cases, I could wiggle around a bit and get out.
Overall: 14.5/20
2: Mystery Ruins in the Grounds
Gameplay: 9.5/10
I'm so glad you skipped the gimmicks for this second level. Simple moving blocks and platforms do excellent if done correctly already. The wing cap section was particularly exciting. The timing necessary for the speedrun isn't lenient, and I enjoy that. This level is definitely still forgiving, but it's much more difficult in contrast to your first level. Thank you for ending on a powerful note.
Scenery: 4.5/5
Your tile selection is much more unified here. Your colors are very clearly defined and they contrast from each other well enough. Reds are reds, greens are greens, blues are blues. Gaps are filled with moving blocks that are scaled correctly. The patterns you tried making in your previous level fit much better here. Items are much more prominent, and they enhance rather than detract from the setting. There really isn't much else to say. Superbly done.
Misc:3/5
+.5 Once again, your music fits. It is indeed mysterious, and it has more of a canyon feel than the level itself does, actually.
-.5 There's only one visible bug in the level. The rotating platforms around the beginning can trap you in the holes of the terrain.

Sorry if you were expecting cynical/humorous reviews, guys. I'm not up to it.

... Are you looking for an actual score? That's a shame. It's not actually recorded anywhere. As for why, that's up for you to decide. Maybe I actually took this level seriously but I simply lost my review of it. Maybe I printed it out to be used as a psychological weapon against corrupt religious organizations. I could have even simply not bothered to take this level seriously in the slightest. Strange.
Do you REALLY want my opinion? Okay.
It's a glorified sign level. "But there's a risk of dying!" HAHA MAYBE IF YOU SUCK
DQ'd in my book, even if any other judges actually recognized this level as legitimate. Sowwy

Hey, that going under the actual grid of the level thing? Yeah, that's totally mine. Copyright infringement. Banned.
You can tell it's 2009 because the platforming is so gosh darn simple. And are you poking fun at my 7th LDC entrant again? I can ban you for that.
The only things that I can assume from these segments is that one is probably from the 6th LDC and one is probably from the 2nd LDC. Wait, that's more copyright infringement. What the heck. Are you trying to get us another C&D? Jesus. I guess I can't kid about the banning anymore, hold on give me a second
Scenery: 4.5/5
Woah, woah. Are you being racist towards day background castle tiles? There's clearly more of them, yet the night castle background is on top. I won't stand for this. Seems pretty standard so fa- OMG YOU LEARNED SINCE VIOLET BLOOD AND GORE feat. ♥♥♥♥ OR WHATEVER MOY- I've never been so happy in my life... Oh, nevermind. There are trees growing on castle brick and spoopy wood. That just won't learn, will you.

+0 Wow, this is a pretty spot on level! I can't really pick out any bugs or inconsistenci- ...wait. Do you guys see that? I'm not going crazy, right? On the top left of the final section? Where that flame tower is? The one that didn't exist in 2009 or 2010? Look closer. There are squares behind that. You know what happens to squares when you cut them along the diagonal? You get triangles.

BLATANT CUTOFF. WHAT ARE YOU GUYS THINKING. Oh wait, I see rotating block backgrounds. It's all good except that that's more copyright infringement. Sheesh.
I noted your improvement in defying the grid and rotating plants last level, but you could really learn from all these guys that you're stealing from. I think it would do you good to apply rather than copy, but that's just me. And y'know... oh wow, yellow bricks look really nice with the grass tileset. I should steal that. Wait. Are those crosses? Nothing here was 'made' by Moy, so you can relax, SK. I'm not going to tease you. Probably. I might be playing Kancolle while writing this though- oh, goya's done repairing. In you go, Imuya! ...ah, so timing of the fire towers were fine, clock pendelum adds enough challenge but isn't a one-attempt thing, good good- Oh, expedition team is back. One sec. Eh, may as well sortie as well- oh, sorry. what was I on? Oh, the silver star segment. Nice call putting that before the shameless self promotion segment, but darn those bullet bills were frustrating. If only they were chasing me as well- ♥♥♥♥ REALLY? ONE HIT? COME ON IMUYA. ugh- Can't say much about the self-promotion segment. I guess something I appreciate are the flat parts. Typically I despise them, but you fill it nicely with fences and plants of various types, and it serves a gameplay purpose. Which one is this from again? I only played like 3 of them even though the concept interests me. -maybe I should be conserving resources for the event...- Uhh, right. Gotta go fast. I suppose I can't ban you for copyright infringement if it's your own series, can I?
Scenery: 4.5/5
Yeesh, I guess this whole color>composition really is a modern thing. There are so many blocks that just don't make sense together. What kind of bridge is made of brick, wood and green matter in a checkerboard pattern? For that matter, why is a checkerboard pattern apparently the go-to? AND THERE ARE MORE TREES GROWING ON ARTIFICIAL BLOCKS- thanks for getting MVP Shigure. 3 more levels until Shigure Kai Ni guys!-

Gameplay: 10/10
I love it when a gimmick is used successfully and given an imaginative cover. In this instance, bounce pads as dandelion-like plants. If you added Galaxy to the name, I would love you in a non-homosexual way, because that kind of love is reserved for Chau. Fairly challenging levels get approval from me, reminds me of Omniquet with how you use power ups. Great puzzle mechanics. Level design appreciated.
Scenery: 4.5/5
My goodness, if I ever start level designing again, you will be the first person I ask to collab with. I would love to make a SMG-esque series with you, because that is stellar creativity, with the dandelions and... jellyfish? Or are those spores stuck to floating water drops? Maybe a shot at mimicking pull-stars? Anyway, the stone pattern works well, but I think you could have added more eye candy in the largely-stone sections. I know it's a cosmic level, but remember that it's a Grasslands level as well.
Misc:3.5/5
+1 Calming music choice. Fits well, considering several SM3DL borrows style from SMG.
-.5 The second and third thwomps should retract to account for player-error. I forgot that they don't hurt when it's above platforms.

Gameplay: 5/10
Eep, first of, forced damage is a no go unless it's impossible to mess up. The Mansion was the most intruiging part of the level by far, but that hardly means much, unfortunately. While it's certainly challenging, there isn't anything very creative in it. That said, the only major flaws are forced damage and the ability to skip part of the level by hold right and pressing after the second transition.
...oh, and the fact that it seems impossible to actually beat the level. I think you forgot a cabin window. It's a shame, really. I see the outro you were going for, but I can't actually get to it in-game.
Scenery: 2/5
Still a bit bare. Adding some more spotted jungle ground would help, and making the terrain less flat would help as well. I get that it's a lost woods type thing that you're doing though. Props for that. I like the disabled transitions and the amount of mirroring you do with the inside and outside of the mansion.
Misc: 1/5
-1 It Doesn't really fit the Grasslands theme as much as it does a horror/forest theme.
+1 Music certainly fits. It actually almost makes it feel like a Zelda dungeon. What a strange combination, amirite? Mario + Pokemon = Zelda.
-1 You seem to have forgotten to reset the Starting Point.
-1 Occasionally, the level will glitch after the second transition after sending a script-error warning, causing Mario to fall perpetually.
Overall: 8/20
Sorry man, there are just too many unchecked things in an already average level. Maybe we can get Runouw to make a Zelda fan-game next.

... Oh my goodness, I can't even talk like this anymore after trying that boss fight. I'm sorry, but please, PLEASE time all your items more carefully and leniently next time. I realize that when you play your own level, it seems a lot simpler to the creator, but keep in mind that your audience will most likely have no idea what you intended for them to do if you plan out your platforming so meticulously. Give us some leeway. (I know, this is coming from the Exterresta guy. I know.)

Okay, I'm done. Standard platforming, but hey, you did it well. And that actually felt more like a hunt than some official SMB-title coin hunts. That has a consequence of making a lot of the platforming pointless, but I'll explain why I couldn't care less in a moment.
Scenery: 3/5
You know, typically, I hate flat straights. But something about this level makes it fit. It feels like a level Nintendo would make, so lots of flat area and sparse decoration is okay. The small things popped out to me more than they would in other levels, like the fenced bridges in the right transition and the wooden platforms hanging by vines in the left.

... it was a good effort, but remakes just aren't going to cut it for contests.

Scenery: 1/5
... I can see that you're trying things out to make certain objects look like they should, but there are just better options. For the flagpole, a rotated fence with red castle-roof tiles would work better.
There's a bunch of problems called cutoff, where tiles just end with air and shows the background. You can use as much space as you need to make your levels both pretty and functional.

Misc: 2/5
-1 I used to love 30-coin bricks and stacking items on top of each other too, but some people get annoyed by the loud sounds and pointlessness of some of it. I know, it's supposed to be a treat, but subtle ones are better.

Overall: 4/20
The joke here is that I'm spamming smilies like I would if I were still 2009 me, because this is the type of level I would usually see in 2009.
But seriously, don't let this discourage you. The bar is pretty high, but contests are contests for a reason.

While it's definitely short, the difficulty more than makes up for it. It was a pleasurable tricky. I think the music might have helped as well.
Scenery: 4.5/5
At first I was like "Hardly seems grassy" but then I remembered that the theme is actually "[insert theme]-Grasslands".
Oh, also, red, black and yellow are my top three colors.
Misc: 3.5/5
+1 This music choice is ironic. But I like it. It both keeps my focus up for the platforming and supports the scenery and atmosphere of the level. I'm genuinely curious what left these structures behind.
-.5 Minor thing, but because cages are wierd, sometimes I may pass through the rotating block as well.

The joke here is that I completely disregard the no swearing rule because this is pretty hype because fire emblem
Also, I judged them all the same and put (mostly) different comments in each because I actually do consider this one large level rather than a series, strangely enough
If you haven't picked up, I have a soft spot for this song and most diverse orchestrations (as should everyone)
Average: HAHA AS IF YOU NEED ME TO CALCULATE THAT ♥♥♥♥
The next (real) review will make absolutely no sense if read in order because apparently I saved the best for last.
Also, holy ♥♥♥♥, I actually played this and wrote the review for over an hour and the song looped gg sleep

Oh boy, a story level. Time to crappost
"A little girl, age 7, peeks curiously into a private garden." ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
"Of course, what does 'private' mean to a girl this young and carefree?" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
"I have eyes." ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
"I guard several pink petals." ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
"she earns freedom 'till her heart's content." ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
"why does it seem to be bleeding?" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
""What's your name, sweetheart?" A distant voice asks." ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
"She forces her eyes open. The people in white uniform all glance sadly at each other." ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
"PLEASE pinch me now!" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Also, I would be pretty damn scared if I found a meadow with sentient rocks and a bottomless pit. Invigorating, though.
At least I'd have a mustache as a girl.
Scenery: 4.75/5
GUESS WHAT I TOOK ADVANCED PLACEMENT ENGLISH AND ART SO I KNOW THIS CRAP. (The next bit of text shall be me grossly attempting to dissect the story using probably-imagined visual/literary queues)
HER NAME IS LILLY; OF COURSE HER REALITY IS GOING TO BE THE MEADOW. AND THAT TREE? SHE FALLS ASLEEP THERE AND THE SECTION AFTER THAT IS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PASSING OF TIME AND HER LULLING TO SLEEP. SPINNING HANDS AND SWIRLING PLATFORMS? SEEMS AWFULLY PSYCHOLOGICAL AND TIME-RELATED TO ME. AND THERE ARE PLANTS GROWING IN THAT HOSPITAL. DOESN'T THAT SEEM A BIT TOO SURREAL (Let's disregard the void underneath a meadow and the rock creatures actively trying to squash us for a moment)?
Hah, half-life 3 confirmed biznatches.

+1 gud moosic

-3.75 You missed a period on the second sign.
-.25 I think sticking with the tone of the story even with the checkpoint would help keep immersion intact.
+3.75 haha jk about the period I know you're sensitive about those
Overall: 17/20
Don't kill me for that last joke. Not that killing me is possible, but
oh also I don't know what it's in reference to. That was me legitimately trying to understand your level. Impressive, getting me off my butt.

I actually took your advice and didn't have too much trouble.
If I had just dropped down from the sideways pipe though, I would have 100%'d this. 0/10 Not my fault at all. Please make a wiki page for this level so other players don't get stuck like me.
Scenery: 4/5
Curves f'deighs makes mastery not all that far aweighs
Choosing between simple/standard and showy/unorthodox is hard because sometimes it's boring or ugly, respectively. I like the simplicity here because the curves of the terrain make up for the lack of items, which is fine by me if it means the level loads faster.
Misc: 3/5
Meh.

Blegh, I'm done joking for now
Gameplay: 4.5/10
Wasn't actually all that bad. The ideas are there. They just don't look nice or are filled with enemies. If you play around with how high Mario can jump and vary the height of the terrain (a lot, and not just by making mountains), levels can be a lot more interesting. It also means you can fill it with less enemies, and therefor make the level open a lot faster.
Scenery: 1.5/5
Ehhh, cutoff and imprecision with item placement (Mainly the fire pipes). I see you know how shift and ctrl work, but I think you could put more time into even the twisted tree backgrounds. Rotate them with the form of the cave. Also, while that twisted tree didn't look so great on the silver hill (using it with full blocks might have looked better), I like that you kept with it.
Misc: 2/5
-1 Music clashes with the title and the general feel of the level. Something darker probably would have worked more.
Overall: 8/20
Honestly, I expected a lot worse. (LE) I'm pleasantly surprised.

Gameplay: 4.5/10
The platforming was average for the most part, but there are certain parts where you can skip chunks of the level. Open levels tend to do that, so make sure you close off any considerably small gaps between sections that shouldn't really be connected.
... the major flaw, however, it that the right path isn't actually possible. I even tried replacing the hover FLUDD with a the rocket variety, and that didn't work either. Not sure what your plan was there.
Scenery: 2/5
Questionable tile choices in the beginning. I don't know why you felt the need to switch from grass to cave(with cutoff) to jungle. Just grass would have been fine, and would have fitted the theme more.
Misc: 3/5
Gotta go fast.
Overall: 9.5/20
Come on, step it up!

Gameplay: 2/10
Really, really short, and there's not really any difficulty to justify it. You can change the size of your level, you know.
Moving along though, there's nothing really wrong with the platforming, but it's not really on par with the rest of these levels. I think you wanted to have the thwomp try and squash the player, but it wasn't set correctly, nor would it do any damage anyway, because it isn't over a solid block.
Really, it's just lack of knowledge of the game that keeps you from being a contender. If you need to be shown the ropes, you can ask around here. There's plenty of experience to go around.
Scenery: 1/5
The level is mostly platforming items. That means it's bare. If you use more tiles(and give yourself more room to work with), you can hit two birds with one stone.
Misc: 1/5
-2 Reminds me of my 2009 levels. Lots of items, but it does not really count as grasslands if it has a bit of grass in the corner.
Overall: 4/20 (BLAZE IT)
That said, by no means does this mean this would score a 1/5 on the portal. It's just that in a contest, you're being compared to a bunch of other people's levels, and sometimes those levels are just on a league of their own.

You know what? When I first saw the level was 800 long, I was preparing for the worst. But this is really tame, and I like it that way.
Even if it isn't all too interesting.
Scenery: 3.75
Meh. I mean, I was giggling a lot because of how you started the level, but there really isn't anything of interest. Flats, diagonals, more flats and diagonals. At least the interior of the ground was moderately detailed.
Nothing wrong with average, of course...
wait. Is that... a curvy mossy rock? My god, you're a genius. I would never think to innuendo that hard.
Misc: 4/20
+1 INTROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LET'S GOOOOOO
