Oh, sorry, I don't mean to act dramatic or bring up any more drama. I'm just voicing a personal opinion.
If we were going strictly by numbers in the 29th LDC, there would be HUGE disputes breaking out like wildfire.
If we were going strictly by rationale and judges providing analysis/reasoning to back up their judgings, then there really should be no question. Looking back at the judgings (even at my own), I can't say there was a point or note in any of the reviews that irked me. All of the judges were reasonable, even regarding reviews on ChaosYoshi and Supershroom.
Honestly, I thought CY's level was a lot better than the rest of the judging panel thought. Which is fine, I might've given it too much praise, or the rest might've given it too little. In the end, all of the judgings stand by their reviews and their ground. Controversial as it may be, there will always be a gap or differ in scores.
While we can do actions to mitigate these gaps, remember that there will ALWAYS be a judging gap of more than 6 points from time to time. Personally, the 29th LDC just happened to be one of those times. I trust MoD, nin10mode, Venexis, Yurimaster, FrozenFire, Amp, Star King, SuperMIC, and many more to do their best and be genuine in their judgings. Oddly, I feel the need to trust myself to be genuine with my judgings as well.
Now if these gaps happened to more than half of the levels entered, then obviously there's a problem in the system. But if these gaps weren't happening at all, there would be no surprise or variety in the system. Really, the system isn't broken. It may not be absolutely perfect, but it's perfect enough as it is, and that's good enough for me.
I mean, think about it. When I entered one of the 25quared LDC's with Darkwater Haven, MoD (literally) fanboyed over it. KABOOM begged to differ and thought it lacked gameplay. The third judge (amp?) thought it had good and bad points, but nothing majorly outstanding (I think? But that's what the overall score told me anyhow). And that was okay with me, because if every single judge fanboyed, gave my level a 13/20, or just said 'meh', THEN I would be complaining about the system.
But instead I got a variety in feedback. When you think about it, that's a wealth of knowledge to receive just for one level. You're literally getting three times the reviews and feedback on what to fix/keep in a level, and that's more than I could ask for.
So all I request is this; As much as the judges trust the competitors to go by the rules and not submit levels with progress before the starting date, at least trust us as judges to give you genuine feedback.
edit: oh btw almost done with my judgings, I just need to write out one more and I'm good. Saving it for tomorrow morning/afternoon because it's 1:17 AM here.
Expect something cool here soon!
