Less than four days, guys! Don't let your work turn into ruins!

Also Kary applied to the judging panel because he's an amazing person and a great role model. I want more judges, though, the more the merrier.

EDIT: Rai and Shroom did too, thanks to them

Hopefully the next LDC will have a few more participants. Considering LL was practically made for this theme I'm surprised more people didn't enter.

About that.

Me and OJ were having a discussion (or at least some of it) and he said that he didn't use the month completely to finish his level. I don't blame him for that; at least he got something done. I haven't even gotten my project off the paper anyways.

I was expecting something more, though. Seeing that 6 people voted Yes and 14 voted Maybe, I was ready to receive a lot of entries in the Vault, mostly unfinished ones. But even that didn't happen. Even with a good theme and an certain time I assumed everyone would be comfortable with.

But I simply can't see stuff happening in LL. Haven't seen past LDCs grow bigger than 5 or 6 entries. So I guess I was expecting that to happen once again deep down. There's always the minority that manages to finish a level completely or at least a huge part of it before the deadline, and the people that doesn't even touch the designer until there's a few days left, no matter how long the deadline is.

LL's LDer forces you to be ambitious; it requires so much work and detail into something, making it so easy to get carried away. I myself haven't accomplished any big project in LL, because I get bored before I get the hang of it. That always limits me to short and forced entries, or no entry at all. And I can imagine it does the same for a huge part of you, too.

With that said, I think the key when designing in LL is to keep your levels as simple and straight as possible. Way too much ambition is never good, specially with so many features and possible concepts at your hand. It's a considerable shock, since it's kind of the opposite in SM63; people try to detail their stuff as much as they can. And I congratulate the four or five guys who could accomplish that in this LDC.

he said that he didn't use the month completely to finish his level.

I think what I said was more that I tried to commit more time than I had available to me to finishing my level (due to school, life, etc), not that I neglected to work on it or anything like that

It mostly just irks me that there were only 6 people who even made an effort to participate in this, despite 6 people saying "yes" and at least one of those people not even ending up trying to enter

unless we're gonna get a flood of last-minute entries which seems kinda unlikely but I mean I did that with RO

...Now, with that said, I could still try to pull through in the last day or two, though it'd take a pretty colossal amount of motivation and speed on my part. :p

To be fair even fooling around with the level designer once a day helps you get more comfortable with it, just like SM63.

And also to be fair FF, bowser and Ven tried for a while, so there is a slight chance that all six Yes-voters have at least tried a bit. It's a pity not to have firmly established pro's like Niicola, BY, JJJ etc. around, though.

I've tried to make a classic Mario-inspired level, yet I felt tempted to add at least a few aesthetics and unorthodox gameplay (thwomps etc). And btw I'll hit the 1000-x-size landmark.

Thank you, FF.

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

An entire scripted boss fight, a roughly 300 tile long cave section to decorate and finish, bug-testing, platform testing, and coming up with creative dialogue.

Eight hours left, technically 4-5 because I have to leave for symphony for the night.

LET'S DO IT

Wonderful. Just when I thought I had enough time my time gets cut by several hours due to internet maintenance/crashing on me when I needed it the most.

Screw it, I can't finish it.

Judges, you have access to the LDC judgings channel now.
Karyete, Master of Civil Conversation
Disclaimer: none of these messages have been edited, context can be provided if needed (thanks discord!) but absolutely does not change anything about these messages and that he's too overly defensive and cocky to make situations better

Karyete: I don't have anything to say to you, I've been deliberately trying to not offend you for years, actually, but apparently everything I say to you is wrong. You come across as so aggressive that you successfully intimidated me into not wanting to talk to you
Karyete: Seriously, what is your problem? And not only that, you fail to even acknowledge you might be in some wrong here.
Karyete: Oooh it's you? Hello. Feel free to drop this right now. You're going to make yourself look like an idiot.
Karyete: We don't want to hear your opinion at this stage.
Karyete: You're not getting any apology, especially after now.
Karyete: You can stay up on your high horse, continue to twist the truth and act like an absolute child all you want. I refuse to give respect to a man who right now is picking up a dropped argument because he simply cannot fathom the idea that he might be in the wrong.
