MICrophone wrote:CRYOKENETIC

Fun - 6/10

The level was enjoyable and had some interesting challenges. However, the fact that every time you died you had to start at the beginning really got annoying with this one. This level definitely called for checkpoints. It also got a bit redundant in the middle. Finally, I know that you aren't a very active user, so this may have been more difficult for you than for others, but you didn't really personalize your level to make it specific to Runouw.com; it could've been any city for all we know.

Graphics - 4/5

Overall, graphics were solid. There was one moment where I thought the tiles looked a little funny, but other than that tile placement was good. I would've liked to have seen more decoration items in some capacity and perhaps some more enemies as well.

Other - 3/5

Nothing special to mention.

Overall - 13/20

While not a bad level, this was not nearly as strong as your entry for the last LDC.

DARK LORD

Fun - 10/10

This was a really neat level…your homages to the LD rules, the contests, the Hall of Fame are all brilliant and the graphics are stunning. Really, really enjoyed this.

Graphics - 5/5

Graphics were superb. Brilliant usage of items and tiles looked good and were well chosen for the Hall of Fame.

Other - 0/5

+1 for 1 + 1 = 3 XD
-2 for epic lag once in the Level Designer Hall
-2 because that red coin was so well hidden that it was very easy to miss. I missed it and had to scan the code to find where it was. It really sucks to get all the way to the end and have the shine not appear and you have no idea where the thing you're missing is.

Overall - 15/20

A superb level with just a few flaws that prevented it from getting a really topnotch mark.

FIREHEART

Fun - 5/10

This was kind of boring. Pretty much you got red coins and killed goombas; there were no particularly interesting challenges to get those red coins and all there were were goombas and stuff. The one exception was the very fast green block in the second part, but other than that it was pretty tedious. Also, it didn't really feel like Runouw.com. The only thing you did was include Buffooner's House, and it felt like that was there just so that you could claim it was Runouw.com related.

Graphics - 3/5

I thought that you're tile placement was a bit awkward at parts. Also, I would've liked to have seen more decoration items and some more yellow coins.

Other - 0/5

- 3 Incomplete

Overall - 8/20

Eh, this was fair. Wasn't particularly interesting and graphically could use some work. Also, could've been better tailored to the theme.

VOLCOVE

Fun - 9.5/10

This was loads of fun! Brilliantly structured, conceptually interesting, fun to play, just great, really. My only problem was that it was annoying to cycle all the way through and be missing a red coin and not know where it is and have to search the entire level for it again.

Graphics - 5/5

In typical Volcovian fashion, the graphics are superb. You are very creative in your choice of both tiles and items and it ultimately works perfectly.

Other - 2.5/5

-0.5 - Minor lag in a section or two.

Overall - 17/20

There is no doubt that you are one of the true LD masters. This is just another fantastic level to go along with your others, and I think you'll find yourself with another trophy this go around. Great, great work!

USUARIO THF

Fun - 7/10

Part 1 was pretty boring. Visually uninteresting and lacking interesting platforming and challenges. Part 2 was nice in its tribute to the Off-Topic forum, but was very poorly constructed since I instinctively knew where the wing cap was and found it at the very beginning (because when you put arrows saying to jump over something, naturally you do the opposite). Parts 3 & 4 were definitely an improvement. The Graveyard was a lot of fun in the third, and your idea to physically include portions of well-known levels by other authors was brilliant in the fourth. Part 5 was very good in its clever use of tiles and progressively increasing difficulty. However, I felt like tiles were actually overused to some extent…more items would have been welcome. However, overall, I greatly enjoyed Part 5. So in summary, Parts 1 & 2 weren't so great whereas Parts 3, 4, & 5 were much more fun.

Graphics - 3/5

Definitely need more items. Yellow coins and decoration items were sorely lacking. Tiles could've been varied a bit more to make things more interesting (within the appropriate tilesets, of course). No cutoff though and nothing was wrong, just could've been a lot more interesting.

Other - 4/5

+1 Tribute to other levels in Part 4.
-1 Failure to do a good job hiding wing cap in Part 2.
+1 Progressively increasing difficulty and clever use of tiles in Part 5.

Overall - 14/20

While you had some great ideas in this level and really did a good job paying tribute to the forums, this level lacks the impressive visuals and has some flaws in the earlier parts which prevent me from giving you top marks. A very nice effort though.

MESSENGEROFDREAMS/YOSHI BOO 118

Fun - 6.5/10

You did a very good job paying tribute to the forums and perhaps had the best depiction of Runouw.com as a city, which was very enjoyable. However, the actually gameplay in the level itself was fair. There weren't any particularly interesting challenges in the level…the entire ending section was just jumping from one building to another. Also, a level like this could've used at least a checkpoint.

Graphics - 4.5/5

Very decent here. Tile usage was excellent. Items were pretty good too, though I definitely could've seen more decoration items.

Other - 3/5

Overall - 14/20

While this level did an excellent job at paying tribute to the forums, it failed to also include particularly interesting gameplay. Had it had a better balance of these two things, it would've gotten better marks.

NIN10MODE

Fun - 9/10

This was really a lot of fun. You managed to cleverly intertwine a tribute to the forums with an easy yet fun red coin level and it worked perfectly! You had a lot of clever ideas and I particularly liked that you not only paid a tribute to the forums themselves but also the users. There were a few parts that were a bit tedious though.

Graphics - 3.5/5

The graphics were fair on this. Tile usage was pretty good overall, but there were a few parts where things didn't mesh so well. You could've used a lot more in the way of items.

Other - 3/5

Immigration Center +0.5
Orange Switch Guest/Member System +0.5
Poor Planning with Clocks in Kirby's House…when one pushed me against the ceiling the standard glitch put me on the roof of the building which is not supposed to be accessible in that transition…therefore I was forced to kill myself and start over -0.5
Minor Lag -0.5

Overall - 15.5/20

This was really a lot of fun and one of the best thought out tributes to the forums. It also was fun as a level in itself regardless of the tribute. It could have been improved in terms of graphics, but still, this was definitely one of the best levels in the contest at the time of my judging this. You might just see yourself with a trophy this go around mah friend…but I had one question. Where be mah house boi?

DARK YOSHI

Fun - 2/10

Er, well, it really wasn't all that fun. It was just going through various pipes, reading signs, and dealing with massive enemy spam and lag. It was very, very tedious.

Graphics - 2/5

Tile placement was fair…the lava tiles didn't fit in the last hallway and there was a bit of cutoff outside of the tower. Item placement was bad…enemies were spammed big time and the water outside didn't fit into the ground properly.

Other - 0/5

-3 Massive lag and enemy spam.

Overall - 4/20

This needs a lot of work. Sorry bud.

BUFFOONER

Fun - 7/10

This was definitely fun in terms of the construction of the level itself. Freeing the wooden platform in order to enter the castle was ingenious. The simple platform was effective under the circumstances. But in terms of connecting it to the forum…yeah, not so good. The ending revelation came out of nowhere, and was very unspecific. The buildup was excellent, but yeah…you could definitely tell it was rushed.

Graphics - 4/5

The graphics were good, but in the beginning section there definitely could've been much more item usage…decorations and yellow coins especially.

Other - 3/5

+1 Trapped wooden platform idea was brilliant.
-1 Poor connection to forums.

Overall - 14/20

This was a neat conceptual level with good gameplay. If it wasn't for the abrupt and extremely rushed ending, this might have done really well. Ah well…that will teach you not to take vacations during an LDC. ;)

The trip to the castle
Enjoyability: 4/10
I think this level would've been better if you made it a bit longer. For instance, you could have spread the red coins out more. That would've 1.) Increased difficulty, and 2.) Increased you score. The longer, the better, I always say! It didn't quite follow the theme "Runouw.com." You made a reference to Buffooner, and that's it. You could've at least added a few references to a few other users, or a topic or two.
Graphics: 2/5
It started out okay, but it lacked slopes. A lot of the terrain was flat, and could've used work. The green and blue bricks that blocked the two doors made the castle look iffy. Item placement can used work as well. The metal platforms looks quite crappily placed, and the floating mushroom in the beginning was cut off. The red coins at the Goomba drop need some work as well.
Other Things: 4/5
-1=Unneeded level transitions that can kill you if you get curious. (Block them off next time!) +1=180 flipping platform that teleported me underground was a neat unexpected touch. +1=Nice use of Shine sprites to get the camera away from you and respawn the enemies for a second drop.

Pt. 2
You arrive at the castle...
Enjoyability: 3/10
Once again, short. It at least had some minor challenges, like the sinking rotating block in the lava, but that was all. The gaps under the thwomps made it unbelievably easy, and I think the bullet bills could've been faster. It needs difficulty. There were no references to Runouw.com whatsoever.
Graphics: 3/5
Nothing caught my eye. There were red blocks and then blue blocks and then red blocks again and then lava and then... You get the point. It lacks decoration, too.
Other Things:2/5
-1=No indication of where to go at the end of the level. I thought going down that hole would kill me, but I ended up dieing from being squished into the level boundaries. Add an arrow please.

Average:9/20
Not your best levels. :[ C'mon, I've seen your other levels. You can do better than that!

Usuario THf(Mother effing god, too many levels. x.x): Pt. 1
Enjoyability:8/10
I liked it a lot. The storyline was nice, and I liked the use of the cliche SPAMBOTS ARE ATTACKING!!! theme. Although there wasn't much reference to Runouw.com, as there was to forums in general and the internet. (Google isn't really part of Runouw just so you know. :P) Level length was decent.
Graphics: 3/5
Nice item placement, no cutoff... All good, but the majority of the level was flat. You have a flat land, then slope, flat land, then slope, flat land, and then slope. Mix it up a bit more. I liked the broken pipes, though. Overall, nothing much wow'd me.
Other Things: 3/5
-1 Google.com got rather monotonous after the 3rd turn. +1 Water part gave just enough time to get to the pipe. My heart was practically racing at that part. :] I like that.

Pt. 2
Enjoyability:6/10
GAWSH. I WENT THROUGH ALL THAT FOR NOTHING. Seriously, I don't think it was good to make me talk to all those users just to find out I jumped over the wing cap. D: I killed myself because I was too lazy to walk back. The referencing was awesome though. Niklaw's Tavern, Avotropolis, Boss Fights, KotH... Good times...
Graphics: 4/5
+1 for the Elevator +1 for no cutoff +1 for more tilesets than last level. It wasn't as flat as the last level, either. Nice. (+1)
Other Things: 3/5
-1 Making me either kill myself or walk all the way back just to get that wing cap +1 for gap running. (I didn't know I could do that until now. o.o)

Pt. 3
Enjoyability:10/10
Loved it. A perfect amount of enemies, a reference to the graveyard forum, a small bit of challenge... It was awesome.
Graphics: 4/5
Tileset was perfect for a graveyard. Not a lot of decoration though, but I guess it's kinda hard to decorate a graveyard. xD
Other Things: 2.5/5
+.5 Fish comment -1 2nd slingstar removed half your health.

Pt. 4
Enjoyability:10/10
OMGWTDFHBBQIJHASSIMP THIS IS AWESOME. Once again, you're referencing to Runouw.com is superb, and this level had so much challenge to it. I never got bored ONCE. Bravo.
Graphics: 4/5
Besides the level references (Lawnland etc.), it was all the same tileset. Items we're very well placed however.
Other Things: 5/5
+1 Boss +1 Referencing to previous levels of your entry
Pt. 5
Enjoyability:10/10
Bosses are my favorite kind of levels. They offer enough challenge if done right, and are amazing depending on how you make it. You made it right. It was like a mixture of obstacle course and battling and racing. It was unbelievably challenging, and it frustrated me multiple times. In a good, exciting way.
Graphics: 3/5
Once again, it lacks tiles. The boss was an exception, because the inside of a robot isn't supposed to change metals or anything. But throughout your entries, it was mostly the same tiles. Mix it up.
Other Things: 5/5
+1 Excellent storyline. +1 Rather creative Spambot structure.

All Pts. Combined: (Subtraction of .25 per problem)
Grammar and wording was a constant problem throughout the series. Sometimes, you said right when you meant left, for example.
Once again, the tiles where constant also. Switch it up a bit more next time! I think some of these levels could've been combined. 5 levels is too much I think.

Average: 15.35

MessengerOfDreams/Yoshiboo 118/Venexis(?)
Enjoyability: 8/10
An interesting storyline. It was challenging enough for me to be interested, yet not hard enough to make me lose my life continuously. A decent length as well. Nice job.
Graphics: 3/5
Item placement could use work here and there. For example, the sign for Shade's house was half covered by the level transition. Another example is the coins. Remember to press the CTRL button! Tiles differed from place to place though, and that's good. The boos we're a bit spammish, but I guess that that was the only way to get across some parts.
Other Things: 2/5
-1 It's best to keep your negativity out of publicly made levels, especially when its abot a user. I'm not sure if you got permission to use him as the bad guy, but please, if you did, include it in your post next time. ;)

Average: 13/20

Buffooner: Waste
Enjoyability: 7/10
A nice, solid length. The concept was pulled off nicely, and I can actually imagine this happening to the site (if it were a city. :p) Enemies were decently spread, but some of them didn't really get in you way, like the Flyguy near the end, outside the building.
Graphics: 5/5
The cutoff worked well with the Waste theme. Items were neatly placed. Nothing wrong here.
Other: 2/5
+1 The Floating platform acted as an excellent puzzlish kind of thing. -1 No Referencing to Runouw.com, except for at the end, which wasn't much of a reference anyway. -1 Wrong starting place. I'm assuming that it starts near the left left boundary?

Average: 14/20 Really good for a rushed level!

Dark Yoshi:
Enjoyability: 2/10
The lag was unbearable during the quizzes. It went down to 4.2 (lulz) and really made me frustrated. (In a bad way.) The quizzes and jokes got kinda monotonous. You should put something extra in between. Oh yeah, and ENEMY SPAM ISH TEH BANE OF MAI EXISTENCE (in most cases :awe:). I almost rage-quit several times.
Graphics: 1/5
It was rather boring. Nothing caught my eye, and I was disinterested. The only reason you got any points was because there was no cutoff. :/
Other Things: 2/5
-1 Didn't quite link to anything Runouw besides D-pad.

Average: 5/20
It wasn't as great as it said it was at the end. :[

Cryokenetic’s level

FUN: 7/10

It was alright. Pretty basic platforming, and sometimes a bit of creativity. But nothing that really impressed me.

GRAPHICS: 3/5

While they didn’t blow me away, they were alright. I would try and make the level feel more alive by including birds and butterflies.

OTHER: 3/5

OVERALL: 13/20

Really simple platforming. I wasn’t wowed, but it should entertain anyone looking for simplicity.

Dark Lord’s level

FUN: 9/10

This actually was very impressive. The platforming was spot-on, and I liked how you represented everything you did Forum-wise. Everything was accurate, from what I saw. There was some lag in some spots, however, keeping it just short of a perfect level. Other than that, it was quite amazing.

GRAPHICS: 5/5

From the trees and enemies, to the LDC trophies, everything looks fantastic.

OTHER: 4/5

+1 for reinforcing the LDC Rules in such an epic level…maybe now they will follow the rules.

OVERALL: 18/20

I was very impressed with this level. It has the fault of lagging, but aside from that it was next to flawless.

Volcove’s level

FUN: 8/10

Nice level. It was also very challenging. In fact some parts were pretty frustrating (like where you had to hit the switch and then get on top of the platform before the moving wall pushes you off). It was good length and, while not perfect, had me sunk about 15 minutes into it. Well done.

GRAPHICS: 5/5

They don’t get much better than this.

OTHER: 3/5

OVERALL: 16/20

Very good level, my friend. Nice work!

MICrophone’s level

FUN: 8/10

Part 2 was a fun little cutscene, and Part 3 acted as a final boss level, but it is Part 1 that is the spotlight for your level. Absolutely frustrating! But still plenty of fun, and people will end up thanking Gawd for those checkpoints, because you’re going to need them. Overall, good level.

GRAPHICS: 4/5

They were really good. Some areas I felt were better than others, but overall nothing bad.

OTHER: 2/5

-1 for only one hard part; it gives the entire feeling of the level a bit of unbalance

OVERALL: 14/20

This was definitely an interesting 3-part level, but really only because 1 of the parts is freaking murdering toughness. The only thing was is that with such a frustrating level, you expect the rest of the level to be just as hard, which is kind of a let down when you realize it’s not. Overall, great level, though.

Nin10mode’s level:

FUN: 8/10

This was a long, exploration-based level with much to do and find. I’m glad it wasn’t so straightforward. It was a calm level, and if you can deal with the few instances of lag and the overwhelming size of the level, you can be looking forward to an hour of fun.

GRAPHICS: 3/5

They seemed to look good near the beginning--the VERY beginning--but after that everything is average.

OTHER: 3/5

OVERALL: 14/20

I may have invested more time into this level than I have of many others, and while it isn’t perfect, it’s definitely something special. Well done.

I actually thought I had less than this, but whatever. Here you are.

Enjoyability? Hmm... Little bit. I won't say that this was the funnest Mario game I played, but it did have a more classic leveling, no detailed story, no glitches, and... Well... Not much of anything. Jumping, a little bit of star use and power switch using, it really didn't wow me in any way though. It gave me a slight bit of nostalgia, but having a more nostalgic game doesn't truly mean it becomes better or worse. It's simply... Old-style.

Graphics: 2/5
There was very little change. Of course, you would expect that from rooftops, but with all these tools at your disposal, I would expect a small bit more effort in attempting to maybe use the doodad section of items. There were no flaws with what you had, (except the grass on top of one roof, is that supposed to be some sky garden") So you really can't get no points for that.

Other: 2/5

Lemme give you something. One thing straight. When you put the LDP rules in your level, it would do good to follow all of them, especially, the 10 fps one. Personally, I think it should be 20 fps at all times, but that's just me, 10 fps works fine. BUT I WASN'T AT 10 FPS. Usually, I don't want to put lag as a factor for enjoability, (I prefer to put it in Others,) but when lag is so bad, that I can barely PLAY the level, it becomes an issue. Now, for the level itself, it was a fairly decent level. I liked the design, I liked the crafty creation, but what I do NOT like at all is the fact that you put it on 400x100, when there is only ONE part that has a y-dimension of 100. Really bugged me. Metal star, what was the point of it? I mean, basically I ran through everything, (more like skipped frames through everything,) until I got to the end. It's short, it's simple, I see what you wanted to do, but I could barely do it, because of the lag.

I forgot which level I judged before, but in a past contest, you gave us a fantastic beginning, but the ending came up short. With this level, you gave us exactly what was needed. This was a fantastic level. It was excellent, well designed, changing and difficult. The concept behind this level was great. While, I can argue that you had a weak ending, I can also say that your beginning was a bit more vague, and less specific, giving a more leeway to this factor. There wasn't any excessive use of anything, it was amazing to say the least.

Well this was pretty challenging. :P But I can't say I didn't enjoy it. You managed to find new and innovative ways to put together a nifty level. The boss could have been somewhat more desirable, and... While you did follow the theme, most of it was not even in Runouw.com except for one part. :O But... I guess you could do the trouble over bridged waters theme. XP I liked it. One part I didn't like was the fact that you added FLUDDs at the end... Which could have definitely been left out. One thing I really hate is when FLUDDs are added to levels with no reason, and especially all of them at once!

I'll admit that simplicity and returning to the classics is always a very nice change compared to most levels. An interesting level with an interesting portrayal of Runouw.com. I liked it, but... Well.. It was a bit too sign filled and not enough descript. With this sort of level, I would hope for more detail about the setting and less about... Well.. Anything else. The format of the level and story was interesting, although it wasn't, if at all, challenging, nor did it have much creativity. Just a bunch of fish and ghosts. Which, I think I know why you put there, as "spam" of monsters, but it just got a bit too much.

Problem is, your story line was very cliched, especially the "chosen one" ordeal, and I just didn't like it. I will have to give you something for making such a large storyline. Your levels were interesting, and some parts were quite fun, but I wouldn't say there was anything that truly WOWed me. :O

You know I could go on about how neat this level is, and how it was interesting to see some of the users and an actual portayal of Runouw.com. Sadly, you did the same thing Blablob did last contest, and set up way too much for a level to handle. You tried to put way too much into this level, and in the end didn't end up finishing. It's a terrific way to approach the theme, instead of having a bunch of enemies and platforming, it's truly just a large artshow. I did enjoy it quite a bit, but after a while, I did get a bit bored, there was low variations in the houses, the town was completely flat and empty. The minigames you definitely could have done without. Signing up was an interesting idea, but it did give a bit of repetition and boringness. What really hurt the most was the lag. I'm not sure how powerful your computer is, but I could definitely feel a strong lag in one area, which was the inside of each house. It was extremely painful to walk through the places, as I would only see Mario in one spot, then he would move to another after a delay.

Now I can't say that there was anything wrong with this. Because there wasn't. This was the part you excelled at to the extreme. Terrific. Bravo. I haven't seen anything else like it. I wish there was more points in this category, because you definitely deserve more for this.

+1 Interesting User/Guest Concept
+1 Shadowsquid. No Joke
-1 Unfinished (Laziness)

You know there is a lot to say about a level that never tells us a story, yet tells us a story. The cryptic signs and the interesting way you designed this level begs for more to be told. Sadly, as I pass through the level I can tell that this could have been done a great amount better. I saw great potential, and it's no doubt due to time that you were not able to revise this. This could have been a fantastic level, but as it is now, it's too easy and short. I loved it though, and I wish there could have been more. Oh I do wish.

Graphics: 3/5
I did see some flaws within this place, but I think this was counteracted by the interesting design of a ruined place. I did like how you took a different approach to the Runouw.com City theme.

Other: 5/5
+1 Awesome signs
+1 No lag

Total Score: 12/20

The 10th LDC will be coming your way soon, so keep an eye out for that! :awe:

Oh, crap.

Sorry mode…but I screwed up the calculations on my level.

I actually have a 14.75, not 14.25, and consequently I have overtaken you for second place.

Sorry. The results are now being edited accordingly.

If anybody notices any other mistakes in my calculations, please let me know.

Insert priceless reaction here.

This is not a priceless reaction: show
Sorry, but I can't think of anything truly priceless to say, especially when I'm tired. :|

It does feel nice to win one of these, and I'm quite pleased that the judges enjoyed the level to such an extent. I'm quite surprised that it led by such by such a large margin, though (2.75 is a fair bit to lead by). Thanks everyone, and congrats to the runner ups as well. :)

I forgot which level I judged before, but in a past contest, you gave us a fantastic beginning, but the ending came up short.

Perhaps the airship one? Considering the rushed ending, it immediately jumps to mind.

This is still not a priceless reaction: show
