Space: Journey to the Sun Series

Postby PeachandDaisy » April 11th, 2012, 3:14 pm

Hi, this was our first level series!

This wasn't exactly intended to get real difficult here, as well as we're not completely finished all of the parts to it yet.
The first parts we have are supposed to be more simple, but will hopefully the newer levels, especially the sun, will become more difficult later on.

The levels are all based on the planets (Except for Pluto) and the moon.
You are on a journey to the sun, and all you have to do is go to the moon, reach far away Neptune, and from Neptune go through all of the planets to reach for the sun, which should be the hardest level of all in this level series.

(Also, it's not like we can use gas, and clouds would be to messy, so for the gas planets we're just going to use something else.)

And NO, we don't know too much about space. ;)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the first level, "Space: Journey to the Moon".
Take a rocket ship (Actually a Sling Star :P) to the moon, and discover five silver stars hidden around the moon.

Also, don't forget to comment, and tell what you like about the levels, or suggestions.
All suggestions are helpful, and we'll do our best to add them in!
(Just remember, we have never made a level series before, and it takes a lot of time to make them.)
We are still creating more for this level series, all of the planets in the end will be finished!
Also, look at our other levels for more!

Re: Space: Journey to the Sun Series

Postby RomaKlight » April 11th, 2012, 4:08 pm

First of all, I just want to say it was good for your first series of levels :D and if I had to give any suggestions, I would say to make the levels a little longer, maybe more challenging, and you can vary the graphics up a bit (though the ones here were pretty cool anyway).

This is my first review, so if I am "off" on anything (directed to other reviewers as well), please disregard it or tell me what I did wrong or didn't consider. So, I guess I'm saying you can review my review...

Space: Journey to the Moon
Difficulty: 1/5
Sure, I fell a few times. I was not affected by it at all. Overall, very easy.

Fun: 1.5/5
I hit my head badly at the top of the map (because of the warp star). It had a nice atmosphere, though. :awe:

Other: 2/5
A little crowded of a level, but I kind of liked the chaos it caused.

Overall: 1.5/5

Space: Night at Neptune Maze
Difficulty: 1/5
The coins showed me where to go, and there was pretty much no way to mess up.

Fun: 1/5
So many square blocks, so many bullet bills (relative to the presence of other enemies), very short level.

Other: 1/5
Monotonous, but at least the temperature was accurate. Oh, and you can't hear in a vacuum, so why was there music? :troll:

Overall: 1/5

Uranus
Difficulty: 2/5
If things moved a bit faster, it would be awesome (but that's just me). Not too difficult for experienced players, though.

Fun: 2.5/5
Maybe it's because I didn't find the other levels too fun. It was my favorite, though. I usually don't like linear levels, but this wasn't half bad.

Other: 1.5/5
I got stuck behind penguins twice and couldn't retrieve the shine sprite. Or maybe that's just because I suck. :o.o:

Overall: 2/5

But cutoff and placement wasn't a serious problem, and...yeah
Overall for the series: 1.5/5
But this means nothing, really. 30%
P.S. I feel I graded too harshly...
Games on this site I actively participate in: Super Mario 63
Levels of mine:
None completely finished yet.
Recently back from a long, unannounced break!

Squignature... well writing on the monitor doesn't work, so how am I supposed to sign my name?

A bit too lazy to update my signature. You'll see that fixed probably before this Friday (the 20th).

Code: Select all
Loading this in either LL or SM63 level editor will probably not work.

Re: Space: Journey to the Sun Series

Postby Harmless » April 11th, 2012, 5:07 pm

^ For your first time giving a review, not bad. :P

But you gotta consider Graphics and other variables in the others category, as well as make your review a bit more expansive than once sentence per category. Also, you do know that a 1/5 for a score is a disaster, right? A 2.5/5 or a 3/5 could be consider average. Just checking.

Anyway, I'll give my thoughts on the levels.

HamEdit: I got the review right here.

Space: Journey to the Moon: 3/10. Being honest, that level was REALLY short. You did implement some nice realistic graphics, but if you fell off the moon, you'd probably die. I would suggest having the sling star warp you horizontally to the moon. Also, add a space control center for the sling star to be in. And expand the moon a tiny bit. Other than that, GREAT graphics and tile placement. :D

Neptune: 3/10. I guess your lack of the planets did hinder you a bit. First of all, Neptune isn't much of a gas-based planet but a cold liquid one. Neptune especially has a cold base of cold liquid (not so sure if it is Liquid nitrogen, I don't remember my astronomy much :awe:), but I think you should've...

1. Expanded the level. That's it? C'mon. Give us a challenge, and Neptune isn't 100 times bigger than Mario. It's much more than that. Most likely 10,000 times or more.

2. My best suggestion would be to fill the interior of the planet with water. All water. No air, but maybe some coin paths so you don't die instantly.

Although I did love the idea of having Fludd with you as it looked like an add-on to a space suit. :D

Uranus: 2/10. Ok, I was tempted to put a space between the r and the a in that word (just a joke :troll: ). ANYWAY... I didn't see much special. Maybe try alternate snow tiles instead of the ice platforms or something like that. And like Neptune, expand the maze. That really wasn't difficult at all.

Some side notes referring to all the levels:

- WHERE ARE THOSE DAMN ENEMIES??? I only saw bullet bills and penguins! Sorry, but that is a MAJOR disappointment. (-2)
- Add some decor. I'm missing some interesting/floating rocks (not trees, but just rocks. And more rocks. And more rocks.) (-1)
- All in all, there's hardly any interesting dialogue or something in the levels. A creative story line could go really well with this series. Overall, I'm afraid to say you failed to give me something fun to play. (-2)

Overall, you scored an average of...

3/30! I felt like this was all done in 30 minutes. Not very impressive, sorry. Although there were some great tile graphics for the most part, it just didn't come through.
Expect something cool here soon!
