#19 The Trials of the Mysterious Citadel (Tutorial through Level 2) by Triple J

Written by: MessengerOfDreams

Ticket to Fame: Triple J is embarking on the biggest level series of all time, planning around 70 levels for TTotMC. Naturally, this is gaining a following.

Type: Series, Hub World, Platformer

Most Memorable Moment: Stepping foot in the hub world of the Citadel

Even as the SM63 revival dies down, some people still feel a need to go big. Triple J is one of those people. Planning a sheer monolith of a level series is a risky feat, and would usually imply subpar material being released. However, if the first few levels of his series are any sign of the future, it looks like TTotMC is going to be one for the history books.

Already, Triple J is showing a very unique, signature aesthetic in his design, and his levels themselves are nothing to scoff at. Combining classic Mario platforming with new tricks, elements and surprises, TTotMC aims and succeeds at becoming a game within a game. Very few people can make engaging and fun tutorial levels, but Triple J succeeds, and his first levels of official gameplay are above par as well. Hopefully Triple J can keep up the great work in this gargantuan project, because the full TTotMC could stand tall as one of the all-time greatest legends of SM63.

My first Level Series. However, it is a loooooonnnnnnng work in progress.

About:

Mario was having a picnic with Luigi, Princess Peach, and the Toads at Glope Park. It was a beautiful view: flowery fields mixing with a great sunset.
Mid-meal, Peach needed to take a bathroom break. Everybody else continued with their NOMs.
She never returned, so Mario decided to hunt her down. He looked from underground caves to canyons to mountain peaks, but Peach was nowhere to be found and, as a last resort, Mario checked some kind of lake out. Mysteriously, it wasn't on the Mushroom Kingdom Directory. How odd; Mario looked around the edges of the water and, as he gave up, a Portal by a huge tree caught his eyes. Mario desired a closer look, but came too close and was sucked in, finding himself somewhere else in the Mushroom Kingdom!
Luigi learned that Mario also went missing, so HE took a look and eventually made the same mistakes. However, Mario will always be ahead of the game (awesome pun!). :awe:

How this topic (Level Series) works:

Each level, except for the Quattom Outskirts, has to be unlocked. I SUGGEST YOU FOLLOW THAT RULE. I placed each level in spoilers with a link to the Portal topic of the level. Also, you should read the information next to the "level spoilers."
Whole levels with multiple Enigma Stars will be divided into different levels, each with a different Star. An exception to this is the Citadel Sections. Some sections of the Citadel have multiple Secret Stars. These in particular aren't divided into different levels. Don't ask why. :3

Levels are color-coded. It works like this:
Citadel levels: This
Introduction worlds: This
Meadows worlds: This
Arid Lands worlds: This
Freezing Lands worlds: This
Cavern worlds: This
Boiling Lands worlds: This
Sky High worlds: This
Creepy worlds: This
Climax worlds: This
The Final world: This

The number of level/worlds for each zone are:
(Including Outskirts) Quattom Citadel: 24
Introduction: 3
Meadows: 6
Arid Lands: 6
Freezing Lands: 6
Cavern: 6
Boiling Lands: 6
Sky High: 6
Creepy: 6
Climax: 3
The Final: 1

Notes:

0a) Yeah... the banners for the Citadel aren't a good representation.
0b) If you go out of order, screw you.
1) If you do not have a good enough memory, refer to the Checklist. Try to copy/paste or print it and keep track of what you collect.
2) Deep-Shallow Cavern (will be) is similar to my Water Test.
3) THE OVERWORLD IS VERY LAGGY. I APOLOGIZE, BUT IF YOU WANT TO PLAY THIS SERIES YOU'LL EITHER NEED A FASTER COMPUTER TO SAVE TIME, OR JUST TOLERATE THE LAG. I AM STRUGGLING TO REDUCE THAT LAG.

Thanks for the reply, but please don't advertise your level series here (it is right below mine too.). I would like the discussion in this topic to be all about this level series.

I'll express my thoughts on your level series (over there) when I have a chance.

Update: Super Mario 63: The Trials of the Mysterious Citadel

Notice

I am preparing a level that may exceed my limits beyond the skies. I'm going miles out of my comfort zone, and will work diligently on my next level, Moss Crossings. I am going to work like hell on it, compiling all my knowledge, techniques, feedback received, and confidence to the next level (pun :3).
The level itself will be split into six different levels. A lot, eh? Well, many preceding Worlds will be very long too. Some may contain 5 levels, others 4, 3, 2, and a couple will be single. I won't reveal the statistics, but you'll see what I mean in the future.

Another thing! I am not making the level long to be good, I'm focusing heavily on each detail, grid by grid. The reason it is going to be split into six parts is so that it'd contain six Enigma Stars. It won't exactly be the biggest level, but I am going to try to make each detail and aspect as good as possible.

P.S. This Series will be in the works for years.

1/27/13 2:07pm Edit: Still cannot get back to work on this...

Update:
Moss Crossings will now only have 3 Enigma Stars. I misread my template somehow.

(It would've been confusing to edit this into that previous post above this.)
