Guys, if you haven't already, make sure to check ROCKY CANYONS, it is really awesome.

I also a few announcements to make. But first, here is the updated map:

Image
yes Shroom I know the location of your level isn't exact I will change it next time I edit the map

Anyway, announcements.

First, I would like to say that I'm planning the addition of bonus levels. What's so special about these bonus levels, you ask? And why are they not part of the actual series? Well the main difference is that these bonus levels are not located on Earth like all the other levels. I also plan them to be just one act long instead of 3 acts like the other ones (mostly because I might be doing a few of these). To be honest, it might be a whole new series all together, but they will still feature the speed factor that is proper to SMC as well as the 3 possible endings. I already have two planned for sure right now, both with a known name and theme. More will definitely come, but I'm not saying anything else right now ;)

Secondly, I'm thinking about adding one more Zone to the series. Chances are it will be set in England. I pretty much know what it's gonna be like, but I don't have a name for it yet. It is borderline too unrealistic to be in the series IMO, but seeing as two mythological places (Hanging Citadel and Flooded Past) found their way into the series, this one probably should too. If I change my mind, I could always make it a special bonus level. I'll also reveal more about this Zone later on.

I'll edit the first post later with all this new info

And don't forget to check Rocky Canyons out :3

Now my motivation for level designing is back (thank you so much 29th LDC), I'm gonna try and get back into Ville Lumiere afterwards. I want to keep the Parisian atmosphere so I'll probably do a few test designs with it first before I make an official start on the level.

Alright! Now that the 29th LDC and my final exams are behind me, we can start talking about the future!

These holidays are going to be dedicated to Level Designing. Working with MoD on Leaves of the Vine really helped me find my true motivation back, and I feel like remaking a level you guys seemed to enjoy more than I do: Lethal. This should keep me busy for the next few days, and once I'm done, I'll finally go back to Super Mario Countdown. I'll start with NEON CITY - ACT 2, before working on GHOST DEPTHS - ACT 1 and then...

Image

EERIE GREENS - ACT 1! It's the United-Kingdom-themed level I mentioned last time... It is what the 2014 part of Leaves of the Vine (my collab with MoD) was supposed to be, but it was deemed not serious enough for a level that serves as a tribute to the Level Designer. But I really liked the idea, so I decided to make it a full SMC "zone". But it's going to be way more than a trip through English landscapes, trust me. EERIE GREENS will take you through legendary places of English folklore, through mythical castles and magical forests and meadows... And a couple of other things you'll find out about in due time ;)

I also updated the first post to include EERIE GREENS... and I took the liberty to add a second post (sorry MP3, that's one of your posts I replaced)! This second post will contain all the Bonus Levels I'll make. I had fun with the formatting to make everything look cool. Infos on them have been added, but I'll still keep the general theme of these levels as well as their names secret so far. But, who knows, I might have dropped hints somewhere...

I'll announce everything regarding Bonus Levels when I'll be done with NEON CITY - ACT 2, meaning the next time you see a post from me in this topic, it will be for NEON CITY. Unless you have questions.

So yeah, check out the first (and second) post :P

Nan's sig! From the previous Secret Santa event!: show
Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

Well, if we're being honest the only things in cali are the surfers, redwoods, hipsters, and maybe some low-altitude mountains

oh and of course plenty of farms and agriculture, but no gold mines (remember that the gold in cali was panned out of rivers, there aren't quite as many [or maybe not even any] mines here as you'd think)

Well, like pretty much every level in this series, I had the concept for the level first, and then I needed a location. Dragon Valley is the only time where the location came first. So, to answer your question, not at all, Chile just happened to be the second place the popped up in my mind after the US (but I already had Neon City, and now I have a level taking place in Florida too, so I didn't want all my levels to take place in the US) for a Mine-themed level.

But yeah sure Harmless I would love you to try again :P
