Bowser's Icy Stronghold

Description:
High in the mountains, a frozen fortress crumbles under nature's relentless assault.
Is it's usefulness at an end or does something yet wait in its depths?

Notes:

I made this for the 25th Level Designer Contest, and won 3rd place with it. (And then again forgot to do any of the followup work like putting it here...)
2 challenges: 5 Silver Star maze, and 8 Red Coin race, for one Shine Sprite.

By the way, do you know about disabling, Doram? It is pretty cool.

I've read a bit about disabling, and I plan on reading more. I worked pretty hard on getting the thing to have a decent frame rate as it is (TOO many tiles!). I ended up having to put a bunch of holes in my landmasses to get the tile count down. Evidently my computer is crappy, and on low detail, it was pulling 15-18 fps. Other people say it is good, though.

The tile use seemed straightforward enough to me, while looking at the available tile sets. I just beat the game recently, as well as unlocking the last tile set, so I figured it was time to see how good I'd be at level design. Plus, I took the time to read several of the "how to make a good level" threads, and just put my 25+ years of gaming experience to work. Thanks for the encouragement, and I will see if I can come up with a cool theme for another level soon.

Fun: 7/10
Good levels, everything felt solid to play, but not that much involvement or challenge was involved.\

Graphics: 10/10
You managed to make solid transitions between the different tile sets, and used the items and plants to a good extent! There was maybe one curvy tree that ended up not matching up, but that's all!

Nah, it was a good concept, and overall everything matched and stuff. A very nice starting level

So yeah. Good, solid level.

Usually I don't play levels. My computer doesn't like it too much. But this... this is remarkable.

I loved the intricacy of the mushroom stems and the tiles, it was beautiful to look out.

The only thing that bugged me was... well, nothing!

I give it a solid 9/10.
