Top 13 Dead Stories

Postby MessengerOfDreams » July 5th, 2010, 9:22 am

Sometimes, we have the greatest Idea. It'll come to us in our dreams, in a flash of inspiration, and by the next day, you have cranked out 5 chapters. Then the next day you realize... wait a minute... I don't think I can roll with this idea. So it gets cancelled.

Such is the fate for 75% of the stories here. Only a few of the greats (The Cycle, TRC, Runouw's Forum, TLT) can survive. The rest... are abandoned. In the hopes of resurrecting the best like I did yesterday with THE EL33T and a few weeks ago with the Cycle, I create a top 13 list of best Dead stories! Why top 13? Well, you feeling Lucky, Punk?

#13

Runouw.com and the 7 Golden Bullets

This story was a starter story by SuperSpongerific. Simple plot of a Spammer story, Simple chapters, simple dialogue. But it was the way that SuperSpongerific pressed on and didn't get upset at my not-so pleasant reviews that really made it stand out. It started to improve, ever so slowly, until one day it just... stopped. No rhyme or reason, it just slowly faded away.

But SuperSpongerific has left such an impact on me, I have entrusted him to my formerly dead story, the EL33T!

#12

Kim and Kirby- The Spammer's War

This was by far the most strange story on the forums. It was a back and forth co-op between Kirby_999 and Kimonio, known forum brothers. At first, Kirby_999 was a girl, which prompted Kirby to often remind Kim "I'm a Boy" in everyday chat up till this day. So Kim fixed it to "A Male Man" not that there is another kind of man, and this was the subject of short-term memes and humor... but then it vanished as well.

#11

Zunar's Machinmas

Truly, even after reading this, I still have no clue what they're about. I just know that the writing style was original, unusual and it was like watching a video game. Zunar's machinmas brought a breath of fresh air to the forums.

#10

Country Girl

This story was just... dang...

Down to the bone, gritty, and nauseating, Country Girl was one of Mic's creations fantastically and horrifically brought to life. It revolved around Rachel, who formerly lived in the NY countryside and was forced to move into the big city with her anorexic friend, Jill, and was her story of adjustment. Or it will be. It's being put in a cryogenic chamber until The Cycle, Mic's cult hit, is complete. But we all can't wait until he gets back on it.

#9

A Lesson to be Learned Series

This short story series by Blablob is home to some of the most heart-wrenching stories I've ever read. To avoid putting a damper on your day by making you read it, I'll tell you that the one I truly remember is a story about a boy with hard luck, who grew into a man with hard luck, no home and no job, who is told that his father had died. Enraged, he kills the first person he sees in cold blood and is executed by the law. At the end, it was revealed that the man's father was alive and that his mother had lied in order to get him motivated to start doing things to better his life, and that it backfired. I was haunted by this story and have always appreciated how lucky I am since. I'd rate it higher if it didn't make you want to jump off of a cliff.

#8

Phantoms

This was to be the biggest thing to happen to Runouw.com storywise. Each of the well-known members was to have a role in this RP created by Avolerators, and everything was going smoothly until Avo wrote the first chapter. It was good, quite good.

Then Ridder rewrote it.

AND MADE ONE OF THE MOST EPIC WRITING PIECES EVER.

Avo, feeling a bit outshone, discontinued the topic, and Ridder had no interest in picking up, so it floated into the sea underneath Captain Rianna's boat.

#7

The Replenishers

Yeah, I know it's impolite to plug yourself in your own best lists. But I was proud of where this story was going and I had a good fan base, but then I just hit a wall. This X-Men Like story focused around Torrance and Carla, who wind up in the desert under unknown circumstances, and Flo, who's on the run from the Government. Torrance and Flo are both Replenishers, who have powers that help people and the earth.

The last I wrote of them, they had just encountered a villain in a Pizza Parlor... and then it died...

It's almost a joke... I worked on a different, 9 month old story before I would work on that. I still have no idea what to do. All I know is that the conversation between Torrance and Carla in the back of the truck was one of the best pieces I ever wrote.

#6

Distortion

What put Buffooner as a writer on the map was a puzzling, unusual and well-written story. I don't really remember much of the plot except that it involved monsters, tribes and time travel. And it was written to perfection. It was gripping. It was quite simply one of the best stories of its time. Unfortunately, the story "got away from me" according to Buffooner, and it has been put to sleep.

#5

Dimotri-Trouble in Equadon

Now this story was one of those that left a small impact on the forums, but never really caught on. Kimonio's writing is pretty skillful, but we never get far enough in to really appreciate its work.

The story follows Dimotri, who is somehow transported into the world of the gods and as far as Kim gets, meets some stony, flirtatious and... naked? :? Gods. The last we hear, he's finding some flight god in the clouds and it stops.

The reason it's on the list is in part due to its potential and the fact that Dimotri became rather popular as a type of meme in the forums, and is even mentioned in Kimonio's also short-lived story, The A-SS (Anti Spam Society)

#4 / #3

TLT Backstories (4) & Runouw's Forum- The Miniseries (3)

These both went into the hits of the forum stories. One asked "How did the characters get where they are now?" The other asked "Heh, how can we make a fun LDC story?" You can figure out which is which. They both were written as good as the originals but never were finished. Simple as that.

#2

The Real World

To say that the reality of this Blablob story mirrored Mic's would be an insult. It was Blablob's style, amazingly done and totally addicting. It followed a total family man whose dark secrets come to the surface. It came as a shock and horror to everyone when Blablob cancelled it 2 chapters in. People tried to get Blablob to restart it, but he had his reasons. A few weeks later, his collaboration with Ridder came out.

#1

KYMPO

Kympo was like the Hurt Locker- A left-field Indie hit. Everyone read it, even Niklaw. It got rave reviews and lots of love.

The story follows Blablob, who is one of the many affected by an attack on the site. Runouw moves the members out into his rival McLeod's forum, and then starts acting erratic. Meanwhile, Blab, Suyo and Niklaw are retrieiving... item... thingies in order to... do something. Yes, the big problem with the series was that is was convoluted, OK? I co-wrote it and I still had no clue what was going on.

Why swas this cancelled? You see, around chapter 7, strapped-for-time Blab decided to discontinue the series. Having always loved it, I volunteered to pick it up, and in essence, drove it into the ground. Critics beat new Kympo with a stick for the most part, what with convoluted subplots and me being clueless as to what was going on. Eventually I decided to stop work on it to preserve my dignity.

Either way, this is by far the best dead story on the forums.

But this still remains as one of the best stories of the forums, and a continuation of a brilliant author.
