Your Best Work
Now is a time of reflection.
I've spent hours today excavating my forum history and my work on the forums- the best moments, and the ugly times.
I especially enjoyed reading my work in stories again. I found that work I had previously labeled as mediocre seemed amazing upon reflection, and work that gained mainstream popularity would seem pretty bad even though, well, they were my brainchildren.
Below is a list of my stories and ideas, some may not be included, including Foundation of Time (which never took off), Collapsing Beneath us (let's face it, I only wrote it cause I wanted to tell the site they were a**holes) and my spoofs.
Let's get cracking!
My best work...
I would have to say my best work is a bit of a surprise. I would have to say that it's very close between 3 stories, but I have to say... The Replenishers.
I know, the first story I rejected turned out to be the best in retrospect. I reread the first 2.5 chapters, and I swear, I think that could be my best work ever. It looks like something James Patterson would write. Speaking of which, the plot is a tad similar to his book series which I adore, yet Had no idea existed at the time, Maximum Ride (series). The narration is similar in style; Flo, like Max, narrates like she is talking to an audience, and also has the thin amount of sarcasm. The plot is kind of like Maximum Ride; 6 winged kids are fleeing from a 'school' where they were brought up in a dog crate and scientific testing, and now for the first books were living in hiding, while trying to take down the organizations that created them and others that turned out worst. I never got too far to get into it, but that's kind of how I wanted to do it. I also think Flo was my best character I've created. However it does have its flaws. For one, I was dissatisfied with Wonder's character. I am not sure if I ggot Native Americans that well and possibly I would p.o. Some Native Americans.
Also, I may have abused the flashbacks, but the story in them was good. Third, the ending of chapter 7 killed the story for me- I didn't like it. But overall, I am proud of it.
Tied for second are Legacy and Daily. Not gonna go too in-depth, but I love the concept and characters in Daily, and there is some great dialogue between Isabel and David, and I had incredible plans for it. I will definitely tackle this after Legacy. However, I don't think quite as much skill in it as in Replenishers, where I was in awe to discover was written by me. About Legacy, I love the concept of this and there is good writing, but the characters aren't quite as solid. I think they are starting to become simply vessels for the story, the story being MICrophone and his Legacy, and that's never good. I actually think this takes third place.
Fourth is TRC. Its main issue was the messiness- rotating between narratives, plot holes the size of a Moon Crater and corniness, but this was my original brainchild and I lovve it, and the characters are among the most developed I've had. Plus it just a certain charm to it, and it is the only romance in the forums.
Fifth is... Well eff me, I don't remember the name off the bat, but it was about Me and Ridder and our double lives of hate and love over the internet and real life. It was good and all, but it could have been more.
Sixth is Survivor. It had no substance, but god was it amusingly funny.
Seventh is my work in Kympo. My second worst. Had some really good moments, but for the most part was just... Bad.
Last, my definite worst, is the EL33T. I look at it now, and the name is the only thing I like about it anymore. It was just so halfhearted-looking. It wasn't nearly as solid as my other works, Kim is just a rehash of Flo and Ema, and overall it's just... Bleh.
So review your work. Tell us your best and worst.
