~.:What is this?:.~

This is a Forum Role Playing Game, where you create a character and join others to explore a new world, completing quests, defeating enemies, and probably save the day. This particular one is based in the gameplay of Paper Mario, altered to fit a Forum RPG format.

~.:The Main Campaign:.~

There are many things in this world that don't seem to be possible.

Many things that don't seem to have a reason to be here, even.

But still, we know they are there.

For as long as we have existed, we've lived alongside all of this.

These forces of change, of creation, of destruction...

We have always tried to control them.

Some, to help us all live better lives.

Others, to have power over people's lives...

~o~

~.:How to Play:.~ (outdated)

Open each spoiler to read about a different aspect of the game.

The Gamemaster: show
That would be me. ^_^ I'm in charge of creating the game world, the story, giving you nice and awesome things, taking them away from you, throwing bad guys your way, and so on and so forth. I decide what happens, and I can change any rule of the game or the effect of any item if I feel it's necessary.

If you have any complaints or suggestions, feel free to let me know, but whether or not I actually do what you suggest is up to me. I call the shots here. Got it? :P

Also, if at some point I'm waaay too busy to keep directing this RPG (probably won't happen, but still), I might designate someone to help me direct the game. However, I'm still the one on charge.

Character Creation: show
To create a character, choose a name for him/her. You can also write a small description and background story (strongly recommended).

Next, we have the three main stats: HP (Heart Points), SP (Star Points) and BP (Badge Points).

The character's HP is how much damage s/he can take before being Knocked Out. The more HP, the longer you last in battle.

The character's SP is what you spend to use Skills and Subskills that require them. The more SP, the more you can use these skills.

The character's BP indicates how many Badges a character can equip. The more BP, the more Badges you can equip. (See more details in the Badges Section).

When creating your character, you have 15 points to split between HP and SP. All characters start with 3 BP, and on Level 1 (mostly. I might choose to make you start on a higher level depending on stuff).

Then, you choose your 2 Skills. Your Skills will be the main moves you'll use in battle, which may be to attack, to heal, to cause status changes, among others.

(Check the next spoiler to look at the Skills you can choose to start with)

If you'd like to have some kind of Skill not depicted here, you can ask the Gamemaster for it, and a custom Skill might be made for you. (This takes time to figure out though :P Also, nothing too overpowered)

Divide the 15 points among HP and SP and choose your 2 Skills wisely, thinking about what kind of character you'd like.

Other things your character will have are an Inventory where you can store up to 10 items (items of the same type don't stack), Key Items they might find (you can carry as much as you find), the Badges you find (you can carry as much as you want, but only equip what your BP lets you), and the Money you find.

You can see your character and other characters' stats in the Characters Post.

Starting Skills: show
You can pick any of the following to start. If you want your character to do something not covered in here, tell me about it and we'll see if we can make a custom skill for you.

Skill #1: Punch
Strike your opponent using your fists.

Skill #2: Tackle
Charge into the foe with your whole body.

Skill #3: Tattle
When used on a foe, this skill will reveal HP, Description, Attacks, and other information about the foe.

Skill #4: Bless
Channel the good wishes in your soul to raise a target's HP.

Skill #5: Ki
Attack your opponent from afar by projecting your spiritual energy towards them.

Skill #6: Yell
Cheer on one of your allies (or yourself), boosting their Attack Power by 1.

Skill #7: Intimidate
Scare a foe, lowering his/her Attack Power by 1.

Skill #8: Strong Guard
Brace for incoming attacks, raising your own Defense by 1.

You can read more about these Skills in the Shadowpedia.

Roaming The World: show
As you play, the Gamemaster will provide information about wherever the players currently are in, describing it in as much detail as necessary, and taking note of important things, as well as suggesting the player options on what to do next.

You post about what your character does. It would be great if you did it in a narrative style. You can do anything, as long as:

-It makes sense for your character to be able to do it.
-You don't Godmod, aka control other characters. You can only control yourself, and write things your character does (You might say that you try to kick someone, but you can't say you actually succeed in doing so).

You can also use any items you have.

Also, keep in mind that good roleplaying, helping others and performing other tasks might reward you with Experience Points (EXP).

If possible, try to write anything not related to the game's narration itself between brackets [like this]. Questions, suggestions, anything, write it [in between brackets], please. Also, please be nice to other players. ^_^

Walking around the world you might run into people to talk to, stuff you can pick up, and enemies who want to beat you up in a Battle.

Rules of Engagement: show
In a normal battle, there's two sides involved, each one called a Party.

Time in a battle is divided in Rounds, Turns and Moves.

A Round consists of two Turns, one for each Party. Normally, the Party which goes first is the one involving the Player Characters. But in different circumstances, the enemy might go first. If both Parties have Player Characters in them, the order might be decided by a die roll.

During a Party's Turn, any character that belongs to it is able to perform a Move. A player can choose to do any of the following actions during his/her Move:

-Skills: Use one of the two Skills possessed by your character. If you have any Subskill Badges equipped, you can also use Subskills.
-Items: Use one of the items on your inventory.
-Flee: Attempt to run away from the battle. Success depends on a die roll, and in some instances might just be impossible.
-Improvise: Basically, roleplaying at its essence. Exploiting the environment, moving in an specific way... If it can be done and makes sense, it may succeed, either right away or dependant on a die roll.

A player can also choose to simply do nothing and skip his/her Move. May not be very useful.

When all the characters on the Party have Moved, that Party's Turn is over, and the other Party's Turn starts.

When a character's HP is reduced to zero, that character is Knocked Out, and unable to keep fighting. When a whole Party's Knocked Out (or otherwise unable to keep fighting, due to Status Effects), the other Party wins the battle. There may be other special conditions under which a Party could win though, depending on the battle.

The winning Party is awarded Experience Points (EXP), as well as other rewards depending on the battle.

Growing Stronger: show
So what are these Experience Points (EXP) we keep talking about for?

When your character gathers a total of 100 EXP, your character gains a Level.

When you Level Up, you get to choose between these three options:
-You can increase your HP by 5.
-You can increase your SP by 5.
-You can increase your BP by 3.

Choose wisely.

Status Effects and a couple secondary stats: show
[This thing is sorta incomplete... :/]

Status Effects are various conditions that are inflicted/given to a character, either by a Skill or an Item, that can either be helpful or harmful. They can directly affect your character's stats, or whether or not you can make a Move, among other things. These can either be positive or negative for you, as some status effects will enhance your performance while other will hinder it. Be on the lookout for these.

In the Shadowpedia you can find a whole section dedicated to documenting the known status effects.

You will also see something refered to as "Attack Power" and "Defense"

Attack Power refers to an attribute of attack-oriented skills, which is the amount of damage dealt to the opponent. Status effects that affect this will increase or decrease this number temporarily.

Defense is a number that is substracted from the raw damage dealt by an enemy, with the result being the actual damage you receive. Normally this is zero, but can be increased by status effects and a few badges.

Element of Chance: show
In this game there's many decisions that are left to chance.

In these cases, the Gamemaster uses a Die Roll to determine the result. The Die used is a D6, a die with 6 sides. random.org is used for this purpose.

When rolling, a certain value must be either matched or exceeded for the action to be successful. This is known as the Success Value (SV).

Example: If the SV for an action is 4, you need to get a 4, a 5 or a 6 in order to succeed.

When outside of battle or when someone Improvises, the Gamemaster (me) will set a SV depending on what how difficult the task would be to complete.

Also, most Skills (and Subskills) have something called a Critical Value. Everytime you use these Skills, a roll is made. If the Critical Value is matched or exceeded, the move is Critical, meaning it becomes more powerful or efficient.

Badges: Very Important: show
A Badge is a special item you can equip. These items give its wearer an advantage in battle.

We can divide Badges into Subskill Badges and Effect Badges.

-Subskill Badges

These Badges give its wearer what's called a Subskill, which is an ability derived from a main Skill. This means that to be able to equip it, you must know the main Skill.

For example, the Power Punch Badge gives you the Power Punch Subskill, but you can only equip it if your character has the Punch Skill.

-Effect Badges

These Badges can do a variety of things, but basically they have some sort of effect on your character during battle. They may increase a stat, make you start with a Status Change, help you dodge or block attacks, or just give you a nice hat. They might trigger under certain conditions, or work during the whole battle. Look out for these, they might be very helpful.

Badges are something important to have, so make sure you know what your Badges do.

Being Knocked Out and Death: show
When your HP is reduced to zero, your character is Knocked Out. In other words, you have been injured or wounded in such a way that you can't keep fighting, and are completely vulnerable. In such a state, you risk being killed for real. While you're Knocked Out, an enemy could actually try to execute you.

If your character ends up actually dying, that character's gone forever. Dead.

In that case, you're allowed to create another character, but you'll have to start over, new character, new story.

Death is always a possibility, so think very well before acting, and make sure to watch over any party members who might have been Knocked Out. During a battle, if everyone else is Knocked Out and only you stand, it might be a better idea to grab everyone and run.

There's items and skills that can restore a character from their Knocked Out state, with some HP. Otherwise, the only way to fix you up is getting medical attention.

The Shadowpedia: show
The Shadowpedia is where you can see information about many things. Items, Skills, Badges... It's all there. If you need to know how each thing works, go there. They might also have extended information on the subject that is not present in these Rules.

Also, there's something called the Tattle Log. Each time a character uses Tattle on an enemy, that enemy's information will go here.

In fact, any time the players find something new, its information will go here.

Make sure to check the Shadowpedia regularly, for it will be updated with new info as the game goes on. ^_^

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, complaints, or anything you want to say, feel free to post here about it or send me a PM. Have fun!

(If you send me a PM, please put [RPG] in some part of the subject, so it goes into my RPG Folder :3]

Could you possibly give an example of improvising in battle? I think I kinda understand it, but I can't say I'm sure about that.

What he means I think is like:

You're in a battle in a grassy field.

You choose Improvise, so maybe you could say you throw a rock found in the floor to your foe.

Another EX:

You are in a castle.
Improvise.
You use one of the traps in the castle against enemies.

Anyways Nan I love the game. I will make a character and if you're overwhelmed then I can help..

(btw i'm going to randomly generate a character)

Name: Allen Nicola Craig

Description: I shall PM this to you

Skills:
- Punch
- Bless

This is exactly the way it is. :D However, since it's not a skill, whether it's a successful action or not depends on whether it makes sense or not, and I decide that. :P Also, to allow players to Improvise, I'll try to give an accurate description of the place whenever a battle comes up.

Also, it might be good if you sent me a PM with your character description instead of posting it here, so other players don't know about it. Only if you want, of course.

Oh yeah, the theme. This story will be in a Urban Fantasy type of setting, happening in current day-like cities and places, but with magical/psychic/other supernatural elements. Like... I dunno... Dragon Ball Z, Full Metal Alchemist, The Powerpuff Girls (random), and other stuff I can't think of right now :awe: If you have any suggestions for the story, send me a PM.

Also, Bomberman, you forgot to post your HP and SP! You have 15 points to divide between them.
Some day I'll fix my sig.
