credits to nan for an amazing pic
A few months ago in some distant land of nearly-dead forums, I got the great idea to host a forum-based Mario Party. It's still going surprisingly, and I got most of the mechanics worked out, including maps, minigames, etc. In fact, some of you may even wonder how Mario Party would work on a forum. Would friendships still be lost? Can we still play fun and exciting minigames? Will we get some awesome looking maps and character tokens?
The answer? Yes. But first, before we jump in, let's go over some rules. Every game's gotta have these.
Note: As of 2/14/2016, this Forum Game has been revived! A major update is in the works. Go check it out on Page 46!
Note #2: As of 11/11/2017, I created a Discord Server that, once again, revamped the entire game! Come check it out here: https://discord.gg/FnrEVap
What is Mario Party?
For decades, Mario party has been known as the ultimate luck-based game. Four players go around on a board being a total jerk to one another as they compete for the winning condition - Stars. The values of Stars and Coins will be explained below, along with the rest of the rules.
What are Stars and Coins?
Coins is a currency in Mario Party. Think of it like cents and euros - the more you have, the more things you can buy or do. On most boards it costs 20 coins to buy a Star. Coins also serve as a tie-breaker when two or more leading players tie in Stars.
Stars is another currency in Mario Party. However, unlike Coins, you do not buy things with Stars. In fact, Stars are how you win the game! The player with the most stars at the end of the game wins.
How does the gameplay work?
As explained earlier, four players go around on a board. To determine the turn order, Harmless rolls a 10-sided die for everyone. The highest roll goes first, the second highest second, and so on. All players start with 10 Coins.
To move around the board, Harmless rolls a 10-sided die for everyone. The number on the die is how far the player moves. If there is an intersection along their path, the player may choose which path they take before they continue their roll.
Spaces that they land on have various effects, as shown below. There are no spaces that do absolutely nothing (unless if it's a specific board event or space that cannot trigger with the given circumstances).
