Mafia Reboot - The Sign Ups

Postby TheExcavator » February 18th, 2015, 2:40 am

What the heck is mafia?
Mafia is a game in which the lynch hungry innocent townspeople who know not who to trust go against the plotting and murderous mafia who know exactly who each other are. The game is split into day and night phases. At day everyone will discuss and before the day ends vote for one person to kill. At night the town sleep and the mafia plot secretly, choosing one person to kill off.

Sounds cool! Let me play!
Hold on just a moment there. You will be expected to check the game daily and post daily and be active in the game for at least a few weeks. If you cannot meet this expectation please do not sign up. This game will not be waiting for people, if you are slowing it down through inactivity you'll just be kicked out of it mid-game, leaving whatever team you are on at a disadvantage. If you can keep up to this expectation and want to play then go right ahead and reply indicating that you want to join in.

How many players?
However many show up and decide to sign up. I will be closing the signups just over 4 days from posting this (at 6 PM GMT). That'll be on Sunday and for me it'll be noon.
DEADLINE FOR SIGNUPS HAS BEEN EXTENDED DUE TO LACK OF SIGNUPS. The new deadline is Saturday, February 28 at 6 PM GMT.

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

There are a lot of variations of mafia and it is possible to play a game with no power roles at all. I left the "What is mafia?" section down to the very very basic essence of the game. I will worry about possible Power Roles like Detective after I see how many people are in the game.

When I play Mafia, Detectives have no starting knowledge, but inspect players each night. There's a lot of different ways you can go with it, really.

There is actually a pretty nice list of decent roles in there. Thanks. I'll certainly consider some of these.
