Doram's Free Sudoku Puzzle of the week.

Postby Doram » November 2nd, 2016, 6:43 am

WOO! I love Sudoku! Thanks, OJ!!!!

Rules

Ok, from the informal Discord poll, here's what we got:

  • New puzzles will come out Wednesdays.
  • We will have 3 classes (since we have some Sudoku Masters in here). Easy, Hard, and Very Hard.
  • You can submit to ONE each week. (If you want to solve all of them, feel free, but you will only be counted for the hardest one submitted.)
  • This will enter you into a quarterly (4 times a year) award, one for each class. Most puzzles solved in each class earns a medal.
  • To submit, send me a PM with a screenshot, or just use the BBCode (and you can quote this post for an easy shortcut there...).

News

Wow. Internet and comp problems have not been kind to me this week. Yes, I know I'm a day late, PLUS, I don't have solutions for easy or hard. I will post when I get a chance to solve them. Also, we're staring at the end of the quarter here with only a few weeks left. If you are gonna fight for one of those medals, your time is running out...

First to solve puzzle of that class in that week.

Original post:
I'm going to post one of these a week on Wednesday, and your job is to solve it and PM it to me. DO NOT POST IT. First one to PM me with the correct solution right now will get a cookie. Thereafter, I will be making a Sudoku medal for the first person to send me the correct solution each week, though I am still trying to figure out the specifics of how that will work, to be fair. Stay tuned. I will post the solution and the winner each Wednesday as I post the next puzzle.

These are considered medium difficulty, and I literally have a program randomly generating these for me, so there need be no end. enjoy!
EDIT: Medium?!? This is hard at least. I'm hitting all kinds of road blocks. You guys want an easier one, just say the word.

If you're like me and seeing each 3x3 grid stacked vertically above the others, I rearranged them into a 9x9 based on the data of the alignment tags in Doram's post.

DORAMEDIT: Hold down the Shift button while you click the refresh button - Firefox (clear your cache). You need the most current style sheet.

VenEdit: Ayy that works, dunno why it wasn't earlier. It's still not showing up on my phone (even after a cache clear) but eh. Phones are dumb lul.

So, am I necessarily supposed to write the solution down in tictactoe code, or am I allowed to forward a picture/screen cap?

I'll give those a try too. Expect some competition if I have a few loose minutes to spare.

EDIT: The puzzle above took me 15 minutes to complete, without the extra hints. It's hardly Medium, but it isn't a stretch either.

I used the following website: http://www.puzl.be/en/#. It allows you to create your own puzzle by locking down the starting numbers.

Yeah, Ven surprised me with his Sudoku expertise, and managed to teach me a few new tricks, and I would now definitely peg this as fairly solidly at Hard, but not beyond that.

As for sending in your solution, feel free to just send a screenshot if that is what you are more comfortable with. The BBCode is not hard to use, but it can get a bit tedious typing out a whole solved puzzle. It's up to you. I gave you an option, but that's all it is. You can choose something else if you want.

With a full set of Sudoku skills, a Hard one like this is definitely doable within a half hour to an hour. I personally bashed my head against it with about 2/3 of the required techniques, and gave up after 2 hours. For all the Sudoku fans out there, I will share the secret skills you need to know, courtesy of Sudoku Master Ven:

I'd like to solve new puzzles!

I'm s Minecraft noob so don't laugh at me...

-----My profile ( It seems unnecessary )-----My level collections-----
Old sigbar: show

JPG :rarrow: update! :rarrow: GIF!
My rating standards: show
I have rated so many levels but I didn't obey any rules. Here is my own rating standard. ( New judging standards! )

I'll give each level an unoffical overview with 100 points in total.

1.Level Quality: (25/100 points): Include level diffculty, graphics and the designing of the level. If a level is so hard or laggy that I can't pass this star will immediately be lost. And if a level is so easy that I can EASILY pass it, I'll cost scores according to the circumstances.
How to judge if a level is laggy:

FPS: 26+: Good.

FPS: 20-26: Not very good, but it can be accepted.

FPS: 14-20: Bad.
FPS: 14-: Terrible, I can't stand!

Here is a tutorial that can prevent a "laggy" level:Why is a Level Laggy?
Tutorial that can make better text in LD: Coming Soon!

2.In-game playing: (45/100 points): Include level decoration, the use of tiles. And if this level is interesting, fascinating and chellenging, etc.

3.Other (30/100 points): Mistakes, bugs and warm tips. If there is any bugs that can't let me pass the level, I'll reduce a lot of points..

Final rating:
0-29 = 1 star
25-59 = 2 stars

60-74 = 3 stars
75-84 = 4 stars
85-100 = 5 stars

I'll continue updating these rules and I'll use these rules to rate levels.

I'm making a sigbar...probably by Minecraft.
