That's right--I've finally had some nerve to create my first Game Maker game. Due to this reason, don't expect anything amazing--I'm not relying on coding and graphics obviously are going to be....well....not good.

Here's the basis of the game. You have control of four paddles, and you must use them to keep a ball from appearing off-screen. Each time the ball collides with a paddle, 5 points are awarded. As time goes by, the speed of the ball will increase. Along the way there will also be things besides the paddles and the ball. Further below, this is explained in detail.

LIST OF OBJECTS PLANNED TO BE USED:

  • Four paddles. Two are controlled left and right, and two are controlled up and down. They are used to keep the ball from going out-of-bounds. When the ball touches the paddle, 5 points are awarded.
  • Ball. Bounces off of paddles and walls, awarding points when doing either. If it exits the screen, 20 points are lost and 1 life is lost.
  • Wall. It appears every now and again somewhere on-screen. It cannot be destroyed. Remains on screen for 10 seconds. When the ball touches it, 1 points is awarded.
  • Moving wall. Appears every now and again somewhere on-screen. It cannot be destroyed. Remains on screen for 15 seconds. When the ball touches it, 3 points are awarded.
  • Bonus powerup. Appears every now and again in the center of the screen. It can be destroyed upon contact with the ball. Remains on screen for 3 seconds. When the ball touches it, 100 points are awarded.

And that's about it that I have planned so far. Please don't go telling me "THIS GAME IZ WAY TOO SUCKISH"--it's simple. I know it's not great. Give me a break; it's my first game.

If you have any ideas on other objects that can be used, please post them. I may or may not be able to use them. Furthermore, if I have trouble with a particular part, I will ask for help.

SURPRISE!

I have managed to create a demo of the game. Try it out!

http://www.mediafire.com/?2clfck8ylwcaisg

Sadly...I have some bad news. I accidentally deleted the game file when I was cleaning out my Flash Drive, so now the game is gone...all I have is that demo. Suyo suggest something called a GM Compiler, but I couldn't figure it out, plus it had stated that it will only compile files for GM6/7 (at least, that's what I think it said)....the way I see it, the game is gone except for this one demo. So sad seeing as how I had big plans for the future of the game, including the following:

  • plenty of modes (at least 3)
  • Ability to set difficulty
  • Multiplayer
  • Sound effects
  • Better ball control
  • Ability to use mouse to control paddles (for one-player only) (Suyo's idea)

And...you know...anything else I could think of. Thanks to Suyo for helping me get this far and for learning a few more things about GM. If it weren't for him I wouldn't have been able to post the demo. And while this game looks like it will come to a halt, I plan to use said knowledge for my future games...[I'm still not forgetting my plans to create an epic boss battle....I promise you. Someday it WILL happen.]

I have an idea. How about two paddles of parallel sides move in opposite directions of the same axis?
Like, if the left paddle goes up, then the right paddle goes down.
[Maybe that could be a new mode?]

I played it. It's zepic (That's epicer than epic.).

Wait... So could the controls be like.. Maybe...

A+D for top
Left+Right for bottom
W+S for left
Up+Down for right

...? In some kind of harder mode?

And maybe you could add some sort of story mode? :awe:
