I like your game, I'll rate 7/10

That's so smart of you trying to confuse the player with the background. :awe: But, can you make the ship run faster and can you add a highscore table? :awe:

Cool! This is just like the game "Asteroids".

But why does a colored square appear when a projectile is on it?

It's like there's a hidden grid or something...

That's pretty awesome, Suyo. It will be more awesome if you add an Online Highscore Table. :awe:

le update

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17041897/shooting.swf

For this update I focused on performance. The game runs a lot smoother now, unless your PC is so weak you go below 30 FPS, where it slows down again to avoid glitching, but if you are above 30FPS it will work with absolutley no lag.
Also, you can now press X to deactivate all the effect stuff to increase the FPS.

EDIT:
MUSIC UPDATE
I won't say much, just start it and pay attention to the new awesome effects (might be off beat if you experience audio lag - that just happens on some computers. Will add an option for offset later). Also we got text popping up now showing how much damage you deal.
Coming soon:
- NEW WEAPONS (one reacting to the beat)
- MORE ENEMIES (aiming for you)
- SOUNDS

EDIT2:
You think your gun is too weak? You want something epic? Wait no more.
Meet the devastating strength of the BLASTER.
Press 2 or X to switch to it at any time. (Press 1 or Z/Y to switch back)
Now here's why I made the whole beat pulse thing. The blaster gets stronger if you shoot with the rhythm.
If you miss the rhythm completly, it will be a weak 3-damage-shot (comparision: default bullets have 10 damage).
If you get closer, you can get up to 30 damage.
And finally, if you hit the beat perfectly, your ship will shout a "YEAH!" or something similar and you will unleash a massive 50-damage-shot.
Oh, and it's compatible with the Triple Shot. Your enemies better get the ♥♥♥♥ out.

Sadly, there are also downsides - a Blaster shot costs three points (a regular one costs just one point) and it takes longer to reload. Now, go play it and show your enemies who's boss.

EDIT3:
The blaster and the gun are too slow for you? You need more bullets and less air? Here's your weapon
Enjoy your new and shiny MINIGUN.
It fires 600 bullets per second (if you have no lag), each traveling fast and dealing 1 point of damage. Keep shooting at someone and you can easily wipe out an entire group of enemies.
With enourmous numbers of bullets come enourmous disadvantages. First, it costs about 40 000 points to fire this weapon for 12 seconds. This means it's only effective if you have an high multiplier already. Also, your movement is blocked. You cannot move from your poistion while firing, and you turn 90% slower. Like this you are pretty vulnerable to fast moving enemies like the blue triangles.

The big problem I'm having right now is that I'm dying too quickly. There definitely needs to be some tweaking in that area; enemy bullets are fairly difficult to spot at times (especially when there are so many of them). Yeah, I understand you're trying to give the game its own style, and that's fine, but there's a bit of a problem when the montage of pixelly visuals distracts you rather than engages you.

I'm also a bit bummed that every time you take a hit, your combo resets. That's upsetting seeing how easy it is to die anyway, so maybe a score deduction would be better suited for this.

Criticism aside, this looks like its turning out to be a pretty good shooter. Difficulty and scoring seem unbalanced but I'm sure future updates will feel fresh and welcoming.
