The Battle of the Snowflake Keep

Re: The Battle of the Snowflake Keep

Karyete panicked. His strategy was to get the mages to buff his soldiers, but they died much quicker than he had anticipated. Now he had less than half a dozen soldiers, which he couldn't do much with.

However, he knew his objective. His primary goal was to hold them off, and stop the advance. He called out to what remained of his army,

"Soldiers! Prioritise your shields; let the archers take care of the Decemians! We can't let them move forwards."

With that, he turned on his energy shield and held it forwards. He wasn't retreating yet; he had confidence in Kerri's bowmen.

OOC: Should probably mention: the shield isn't super-dangerous to touch or anything, but it isn't harmless either.

"Mmm... keep an eye out for more of that arrow nonsense, boys." Robin remarks. "Looking pretty uneven... Damien has to deal with that pointy eared fellow's men, and we both have to deal with their arrow raid..." He considers. "Still, if we engage them, they could very well miss their mark and hit their allies. They're not used to snow warfare, I hear."

"Alright, boys! Let's take on this team in front of us. They look to be taking on a defensive approach, so we'll do the same. Work around them until you find an advantage. Don't forget the arrows, and definitely don't overexert yourself, we've already took a hit!" He commands, before looking at Karyete with his energy shield up. Robin looks at his tome and shoots a fireball at it, to grab the enemy commander's attention.

"Fight me, man to man. I won't take no for an answer!"

Karyete took a stance and braced the impact of the fireball. It quite clearly wasn't intended to harm him, but rather to get his attention. Just then, he heard Robin shouting something at him.

"Fight me, man to man. I won't take no for an answer!"

In his head, Karyete knew that this was an awful idea. He had the advantage, and bringing himself down to Robin - and weakening the defence - would be risky. But another part of him felt it was right to accept the challenge - if he defeated Robin, one-on-one, it would be extremely helpful. And besides, his shield wasn't doing much more than his soldiers' shields.

He lowered his shield and extended his scythe, trudging through thick snow towards Robin.

Robin quickly analyses Karyete's weapon. 'Metallic, large, and most likely heavy. I doubt it can take fire very well...' He considers. He strikes a quick pose to make his actions look more just for cool factor to confuse Karyete, and from it sets his sword on fire, removing the electricity.

"Shall we dance, then?" He smirks, stepping forward.

Karyete was expecting more fireballs, which he could probably just cleave through with little problem - but he was surprised to see Robin's sword ignited and ready. So be it, Karyete thought. Fire or not, that thing is no match for a scythe.

He stopped, and gripped his scythe tightly. "Let's dance."

He lunged at Robin, his scythe poised above his head, and swung it viciously at head height.

'Telegraphed AND slow! It must be my lucky day.' Robin thinks, sidestepping to the left while keeping his sword held outwards to the right to protect himself from any sudden unexpected arc movements. After a moment, whether his defensive technique actually mattered or not, he slashes at the scythe's pole, hoping that the fire enhancement to his sword will help him melt right through the metal and cut the actual scythe part off.

Karyete knew that the lunge was a bad idea mere moments after he did it - he meant for it to be faster, but he hadn't factored in the snow slowing him down. However, if that was a bad mistake, Robin's was much worse.

His scythe would not be severed by mere fire.

Karyete bounced off the sword, and quickly regained his balance. He felt the heat brush his hands, even through his clothing, but he was unharmed. He was surprised by that, but quickly he realised what Robin was trying to do. He decided to try something which he had practised.

He activated the magic in his gauntlet, but kept both hands on the scythe. He rammed the scythe into the ground using the side of the blade, and flung himself into the air and hurtling fast towards Robin, preparing a sweeping attack.

"Alright, yeah, should have figured a commander wouldn't be that easy to disarm." Robin deadpans. He promptly dives down under Karyete and comes up with a plan B. While getting himself back up, having hopefully avoided the attack, he sets his sword to go back to electricity. Plan B: hope that the metal used is conductive enough to electricity to send it right into Karyete's body.

A flurry of arrows raced down the mountainside to meet General Audrey... but none seemed to make it anywhere near their marks. Weasel notched another arrow, drew back her bowstring, and loosed once more, but a gust of wind blew a drift of snow into her face and she couldn't even tell where the arrow went. This isn't working. She's coming in too fast. Axel called out to the squadron as she shot a flaming arrow down the snowy slopes. "Reinforcements are on the way--don't let up!" But Weasel had other plans.

She crept silently toward the boulders piled up on the ledge for use with the siege weapons, her comrades too busy with their bows to notice her approach. Weasel clambered up and heaved with all her puny might against the rock on top, but it would barely budge. The figure on the mountain was closing in fast, more discernible through the storm with every passing second. "A little help?!" A few bowmen glanced her way for a brief moment before returning to their futile fire. It seemed like the plan had died before it could be born, until she saw a man from the catapult drop his bow and begin running over to join her. As he climbed, she began, "Help me push--" "Yeah, yeah. Move out of the way, kid." Weasel hopped down and picked up her bow again, watching the man while she did so. He had far better luck than she had with the weight, and in an instant the boulder was careening down the hill toward the encroaching Novemian general.

Suddenly it seemed doubtful that her idea would have any effect. Lost and frightened where she had been confident and determined to win the battle just minutes before, she turned to run back down the mountain, but crashed into Axel instead. "What are you doing, you insolent little ♥♥♥♥? That was a waste of good stone. Get back to your post and fire!" Weasel shrank back from her commander and ran to pick up her arrows, reluctantly setting herself back to work.
