I don't know if that would be safe.

I don't think God will answer your question either.

Eh you all know how much I suck at level designing.

And how much I hate polls for things like this.

Soo, I'm gonna give this a pass. Besides I wanna concentrate on my jungle level.

My argument for why we shouldn't have a poll is how easily people can be amazed by triggers. Seriously, a "level" created to be a calculator got 4's and 5's. Although I can understand why you wouldn't want judges, since there's no defined judging system for LL. Plus, the ability to judge levels completely void of triggers equally with those utterly littered with triggers, would be a bit hard to come up with.

If you decide we should us judges, there's at least 4 people that have a clue as to what to rate LL levels. Raz, I'm sure you could, and would have to as host. BY, JRFD, and I could probably act as three others. Considering how much trigger magic JRFD has cooked up and some of the many ideas I've created, I believe the two of us are just a small bit hardened to trigger magic.

If we were to actually attempt to form a judging system, we would have to create it before this LDC finishes; preferably before the deadline. The judging system of the SM63 LDCs could work for LL actually. Cut-off is entirely possible albeit harder in many cases. There is also quite a few options for graphical design. Fun and Other are easily applicable.

Edit: I am in the process of making a level for both this and the SM63 LDC. I'd say in terms of game-play my LL entry is about half done.

  • I'll pass.
  • I think we were too hasty when starting this contest, according to previous posts. I myself think it was so either way.

The judging system used for the SM63 LDCs needs to be revamped if it's going to apply to LL. You can't say Graphics anymore, but you could say Style - does everything fit, is their background where there shouldn't be one or vice versa? Does the mood fit the gameplay?

In fact, I'd rather judges gave their overall impressions of the level, say what they liked or disliked, how it could be improved and so on and so forth. We can apply a number to the end of it, say integers or .5 values out of 10, for whatever the judge thinks it deserves.

So would a floating scale, where it starts at 10 and is either added to or subtracted from based on the judges' impressions of the level, work better? I believe it was Ven that used that on the 23rd SM63 LDC.

Edit: Part of why separating the categories would be useful for LL is because trigger amazement would easily add several points for some people. I believe Fun had the highest point count because it was the most important aspect of a level. Triggers would help or hinder fun, but most bonus points would probably end up in Other.

Why so? I am confident that it is possible to create graphical art pieces in the game as much as in SM63. It is possible, and I won't give up until I do so, and I believe it is even easier: with blocks and changing the colors of many items and blocks, I would say it could be much more than just a "style for a gameplay" but maybe even the other way around.

About the last suggestion, I would like an specific categoration of scores. The point of the classes in SM63 was to offer some sort of organization and basis to the judgings. I do not say that an /10 would not work, but maybe thinking of different number classes would be better. At least that is what I think.
