FEEL MY PAIN! MUHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Umm, congratulations to all the participants, you all did a good job, and I did like stuff from all the levels... even if sometimes they were too frustrating, or too... unfinished, I dunno :awe: they all had something that made them shine. So yeah, hope to see you again when the actual LDCs begin. I need some competition.

Wow, you're right, between Nan, N and Kaboom, 4th place is a bigger niche than 2nd place, although 2nd place is a niche for, like, one guy.

For a first experimental attempt with LL, I'm quite happy with the result, and have learned a fair amount to apply to future levels. Congrats JSlayer on the win; despite your opinion of it, the level was a strong contender, and the boss was quite inventive.

For those that wonder why some of the decisions were made as they were, the original might be worth checking for a comparison.

-KT wrote:(Another second place. I'm not sure how much you do have right now but they seem to hunt you a bit. : P)

If it ends up counting for a medal, this will make silver #10 to add to the collection. Ironically, the original also got second place in its contest.

Blabob wrote: I’m not a fan of those platforms that pop up from nowhere and disappear when you touch them

They're meant to replicate a bullet bill bouncing obstacle from the original, with the spiked diamonds being the launchers, but I didn't like it much either. I should've just made another obstacle in place of those, but alas, what's done is done.

JSlayerXero wrote: Although, the ranged, red orb attack doesn't always match up with the ground stomping attack. Was that intentional?

You are correct in that it was intentional, for they are separate attacks. They work on separate timers / functions, and thus trigger at different times / under different conditions, even if they overlap sometimes.
Those red orbs were supposed to be fireballs, otherwise, but I guess they weren't portrayed well enough.

JSlayerXero wrote:However, the boss fight ends really abruptly. That kind of ruins the feeling of accomplishment I get from beating the boss.

Unfortunately, because of how the boss moved horizontally, it was irritating enough to set up an effect to match its placement (would have been nice if X/Y coordinates could be drawn from variables easily), and while I was intending to do a little more with it, I was running short on time.

NanTheDark wrote:The whole super squares subquest also seems cool, but the thing is that everytime you die, you lose all your super squares! So if you die later on the level, you're screwed and need to restart the level to get them all.

I think it was stated that they had to be collected in a single run through. I was hoping to set up the checkpoints to save large square progress, but I didn't end up setting something up in time, although I might go back and fix that at some point.

MessengerOfDreams wrote:And the legend of LL begins, with JSlayerXero leading the charge to become the first LL god.

That was established long before this contest began, considering what he has made already. A contest is not necessary for that purpose.

Will do sporadic level reviews on request - PM if interested. I will only do one level at a time. I tend to be rather critical.

I liked your level a lot Volkove. I welcome you (and every else really) to the tiny LL group with open arms.

Also I didn't say the first quote.

First of all, thank you for third place :)

You definitely have quite a few ideas going into this level. I really like the fact that each area is its own sort of mini-game. With that said, many of the areas could have used some more work. That first part in particular, where you have to get the orb into the right spot, especially frustrated me. Half the time pressing Z did nothing, which threw me off and kept forcing me to restart the segment. Also, the dark area after that was just way too merciless on the warp points. I found it as a matter of trial and error trying to find which pathways wouldn't warp me back to the entrance, which made it tedious and uninteresting. In short, you had some nice concepts with some decent execution.

Well the problem with this section was that I used a reset-function to deactivate the platforms. If you deactivate them where they started they reset but it does nothing :/

I knew about this problem and made it possible to reset those platforms. But afterwards I could think of a very easy fix.

The platform in the ground wasn't that obvious. I think there should've been a better indication of where it was.

I agree with that.

Also, the upper two shadows can move out of the way of your attacks.

That's kind of intented, actually they indicate when they move out of the way, so you would only have to wait a little bit. But it can be annoying.

-.5 I jumped after I killed the last shadow. This resulted in me glitching through the roof, rendering the level unbeatable. It's also possible to miss the last text box if you exit the hit box trigger before the text shows up.

After I read this and tested it and ... it worked. I really have no idea how you can glitch through that wall but...

I think the problem with some sections was that I thought they would be easy understandable, but they weren't.

But I'm not complaining about 3rd place :)
This is a sign...

Inventive, yes. That was kind of the point actually. I would've made the sprite more detailed, but I'm not exactly a sprite-artist, so you ended up with what is literally a drawing I made in MS paint, then recreated in LL. Looking back, I would probably add minor alterations to the boss, add some polish and iron out a few bugs before I attempt to put this on the portal. My own opinion is a bit of a battle of bias. As expected, I started bias towards my level, but then I start nitpicking and reducing points, probably more than necessary, but still. In the end, I ended up rather biased against my level, but gave it 13 because I still really liked it. I dunno. I was joking before reading the results that my rating would totally be the one that would kill my chance at 1st. Which it would've hilariously enough.

Fireballs? I can kind of see that. I saw them more as magical red balls of death. same thing functionally.

It has exactly 22 HP. Maybe you just didn't hit it enough? That's weird.
