The 1.8 update is looking exciting.

Possible features include:

Strongholds
Ravines
Giant Mushrooms
NPC Villages
Greater map height
Hunger
Leveling up
And more?

This sounds more like an RPG Update.

PROTIP: 1.8 is the Adventure update. It will take quite a while, apparently.

Personally, I am not looking forward to the NPCs, leveling up, and hunger in the game. However, if there is an option when creating a world to choose NPCs, it would be pretty cool. The new mob looks pretty interesting, too.

It is optional, and there is no adventure update yet..i think. the leak of 1.8 came out yesterday

From what I heard, the 1.8 update is coming on Sept. 12. Hopefully it won't be postponed again.
