Nice. I can picture a portal being used to get there, but I can't imagine what it would be made out of. Also, it would be a good idea if Notch made it where there is a special item that you can get there, and maybe some new mobs you can find there like birds.

Correct. There's an article on this in the Minecraft Wiki called Sky Dimension.

And I think the portal needs to be a Glowstone ring. That way, you have to first get to the Nether. Which I'm trying to do.

I'm sure there was a lava pool somewhere in the Snow biome around my house...

EDIT: No, the Aether is actually a mod made by a seed combined with a map generator. Don't confuse it with this.
