If you made your house somewhere near your spawn location, then make a compass, it would come in handy so you don't get yourself lost. It points towards your spawn point. They can also be used for making maps.

If you want to find an NPC Village, then you should try going to areas that you haven't been to so it can generate 'em. The best way to keep track is by making a map. That way, you can see where you have already been. As for the NPC Villages, they seem to spawn in or near desert biomes for most people, though it can happen elsewhere.

That's the thing. I can't seem to find any redstone dust at all, and I've only found 64 blocks of iron in the past 3 days, and I searched everywhere. This means, I won't be making a compass anytime soon. I've actually found a- believe it or not, stronghold that's hidden in a hole a creeper blew up about 5 blocks away from my base after digging. But imagine that, it's only a stronghold. Still no mines.

I Have. And again, even after creating an enormous hole, 3 in fact, I've found about a full stack of iron in the past 3 days. I'm trying my absolute hardest to find redstone ore.
Incomplete Objective (Debating on a delay): Find an NPC Village

New Objective: SHEEP DAMMIT.

For Redstone Ore, just dig DEEPER.

YOU HAVE TO GO DEEPER.

Unless you mined a hollow shell all the way to bedrock, in which case I'm proud of you.

Actually, I mided a 4 block radius hole to bedrock level after I got home. The very instant I heard it, I hit a block to the side on accident and... Well, that's not up for discussion.

Also, I heard of a little trick on Minecraft Wiki Saying to use the F3 key to find mobs below you, showing where a mine, stronghold or whatever may be under you. I'm going to try that now, seeing I just looked it up.

That was removed in the latest update I think.

Since the 1.8 Adventure Update, the f3 key only gives the coordinates, RAM access (I think that's what it is...), and some other world information. Notch removed the spawn numbers that go above the mobs, probably to discourage using it to find dungeons, strongholds, and abandoned mine shafts.

Damn... I was about to do that. Just logged on after checking the wiki again. Manual labor, awwwaaaaayyyyy!

Okay, my next goal is to ask what the conditions of sheep spawning is! I'm trying to decorate my house, seeing I finished my lava setup. I have a little obsidian farm with about 20-30 blocks of obsidian but without a diamond pick I can't do anything with it. And this kinda points to the fact that I need diamonds.
