Get MCPatcher, run it, find ModLoader from dowloads and add it in. BOOM, profit.

If you're able to play the game normally, it should exist in your ".minecraft" folder. If you don't know how to reach that easily, just type "%appdata% in your Home search bar, press enter, and it will be among the list that shows up. The minecraft.jar file is found within the "bin" folder, and it isn't always labeled "minecraft.jar", but can also be just plain "minecraft".

The .minecraft folder is in a hidden folder that you can't normally access.

What you need to do is find it. First go to your Start Menu, then search for "Run". This program allows you to run anything that you type in.

Once you have it open, type in %APPDATA%

This will open up the hidden folder.

Go to Roaming > .minecraft > bin

Your minecraft.jar will be there.

Anything else you want to put in will also be there.

EDIT: Derp herp, didn't read your post Hardy. Pretty much everything Hardtorchi says, but the thing is, sometimes the search won't find %APPDATA%. That's why it's more reliable to use the Run program.

Also ensure that you have run Minecraft atleast once.

Also, if you open Minecraft, then go to Texture Packs and click Open Texture Packs Folder, it takes you to .minecraft/texturepacks, and you can just backtrack from there to bin and whatever else.

Just to make sure, this is what it should look like (on Windows 7) and where it is.

I'm just posting this as reference, though you may have already been through this and still haven't found your minecraft .jar.

So you're looking for the .jar, not the launcher? Just use the launcher and force update, and then open your bin. You can hit 'M' and it'll jump straight to the jar.
