Ever since that connection reset error appeared my singleplayer Minecraft can't run at more than 10fps. Why is this?

EDIT: Another problem is that the Connection Reset keeps happening every few seconds now.

Sounds like a RAM an processor issue. What all are you running alongside it? Like videos and stuff.

Occasionally I have some music on in background but I tried Minecraft without it and the FPS stayed at 9 (and now it's droppign to 8 a lot).

Run Task Manager and see what processes are running the most usage. You may need to kill some to increase the available RAM.

Will I have to do this in secret? Because my dad is so paranoid about our computer he assumes anything and everything will give it a virus. Once I was on MinecraftServers and he looked at the banners for the servers and he said 'Sam, don't click those. They will give the computer loads of viruses'. It took me a while to convince him that they wouldn't.

Obvious question: have you redownloaded Minecraft?

If so: did you delete all your config files for minecraft before redownloading?

I have re-downloaded Minecraft only to have lost everything :>

Also I have no idea what config files are.
