Thaaaaaaaaaaaaat is not the definition of a fact.

I was half-joking. While that isn't a fact, the other thing I said is.

Yup. Here's an article talking about not just another Mario clone w/LD that was shut down, but the reason Nintendo has been going after them suddenly: Nintendo is making one themselves...

Slate.com: Nintendo’s Mario Maker Could Be a Minecraft Killer

I agree. Nintendo has finally realized the immense appeal of stuff like that, and is hoping to cash in. I am not surprised about the difficulty they are having getting people to adopt the Wii U. Much of the sizeable market share that they earned with the Wii was average age non-gamers and the elderly, both of which do not understand normal system life-cycles. This might help tip the scales with some of the more creative of that set, but they are going to have to market the ever living hell out of it.

Also discussed in Serious Discussion.

Personally, with the giant mods and community in minecraft I seriously doubt it will kill it off. Maybe the community might get bored of minecraft and play Mario Maker instead, but it's very unlikely it will actually kill it off.
Expect something cool here soon!

You guys underestimate the community of minecraft.

Oh, no, no, no. I wasn't actually agreeing with the article that it could kill Minecraft. I play Minecraft, and I know exactly how impossible killing it is. My point is that the media is making something of the fact that level design is actually a big thing out there, to the point that some people think it MIGHT be big enough.

We are a tight community, off on our own here, and a bit isolated from everything else going on out there. We think level designing is big, but we also know that we are small, and thus we think it might be small too. Apparently, we are the tip of an iceberg. I would love to see if there are any larger level designing communities out there that we could connect with (and not just the communities around the other cease-and-desisted fan games), that could promote the hobby in general. I would hope that Nintendo is smart enough to add external saves for the levels so that they can be shared on the internet in general, and that can give sites like us an opportunity to contribute to their pool of levels. That could be huge, and not just for us. We know we have a bunch of great designers, and we are all working on helping each other and bettering ourselves. We could actually be a big part of the success of that game, if they let us. I see lots of great fun and great potential. this could be a huge step for all of us. Plus, if we do start getting some fame for our contribution to the global Mario level design community, we could be part of the traffic generators for Last Legacy, and help Runouw out!

I'm exited as heck about this, and I hope you all can see the possibilities too.

If you count hacking Super Mario World as level designing, there's Super Mario World Central. But there's way more to those than just level designing, so I'm not sure if it exactly works.
