Animal Crossing

Dig up fossils, fish the fish, catch the bugs, and repay the evil raccoon.
Basically, this thread is to discuss your Animal Crossing Town, trade friend codes, ask questions, etc.

OMGWTFISANIMALCROSSING..: show
Animal Crossing (どうぶつの森 Dōbutsu no Mori?, lit. "Animal Forest"), is a social simulation video game series developed and published by Nintendo, in which the player lives in a village inhabited by anthropomorphic animals, carrying out various activities. The series is notable for its open-ended gameplay and extensive use of the game systems' internal clock and calendar to simulate real passage of time.
Three Animal Crossing games have been released worldwide, one each for the Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS, and the Wii. A new installment has been announced for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS. The series has been both critically and commercially successful. The franchise has sold 16.49 million units worldwide.

but what is it about?: show
In all Animal Crossing games, the player assumes the role of a child, who moves into a rural village populated with anthropomorphic animals and lives there indefinitely. Gameplay is open-ended: players have no defined objectives, but are instead encouraged to spend their time in the village performing any number of activities, which include collecting, planting, or socializing with the village's residents. All Animal Crossing games are played in real time, utilizing the system's internal clock and calendar. Thus, passage of time in the game world reflects that in reality, as the well as the current season and time of day. Some in-game events, such as holidays or the growth of a tree, occur at certain times or require some duration of time to have passed.[5]
One notable feature of the Animal Crossing series is the high level of customization available, some of which affects the outcome of the game.[6] The player character is both named and sexed, and its appearance can be modified by buying or designing custom clothes and accessories or changing the hairstyle. The player's house can also be furnished, decorated, and later expanded: the player can purchase and collect furniture from Tom Nook, the village merchant, and place it anywhere in the house, as well as change both the wallpaper and floor designs. While its terrain, building locations, and initial residents are randomly generated when the game is first begun, the village's name and anthem, as well as some of the residents' catchphrases, are also determined by the player.[6]
Collecting is a major facet of Animal Crossing: the player can explore the village and gather objects, including fruit from trees, seashells, and discarded items. Nearly all objects can be sold to Tom Nook for Bells, the in-game currency. A number of specialized tools are available for other activities such as fishing and insect collecting. Special items, such as fossils and paintings, may be donated to the village museum. The player can choose to socialize with the other animal residents by engaging in conversation, sending and receiving letters, bartering, or playing hide-and-seek. Residents may move in or out of the village depending on the player's actions.
All installments of Animal Crossing allow some form of communication between players, both offline and online. A single village can house up to four human players, though only one can be exploring the village at any given time.[5] The players can interact via written messages through the village post office or bulletin board. The Nintendo GameCube iteration allowed players to travel to other villages by trading memory cards written with the game data,[6] but all subsequent installments allow players to travel and interact online via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.[7][8]

Re: Animal Crossing

Postby CedarBranch » February 15th, 2013, 2:14 pm

Animal Crossing is definitely one of my favorite games out there. What I love to do most is ANYTHING. It is hard to point out a flaw when the game has been executed so well.

Some things I would like to share:

1) When I used to have City Folk, my town was weird: the river made an island :awe:, the easternmost portion of my town had a cliff making a dead-end spanning HALF the size of the map... wow that's long. Also, I could plant and grow a tree on one of my hills. :P Lastly, the sand on some parts of the beach could sustain trees for some reason.

It was a good game, but after I paid the debt off, finished the donation project thingy, and obtained all silver and gold tools... everything rusted.

2) Wild World: I regret getting rid of it for many reasons. Out of all of them, a very interesting reason: there was one tile where I could plant AND GROW a tree touching the river. Amazed, I shared the news on the Gamefaqs forums, but nobody believed me. "Pic or it didn't happen." ♥♥♥♥ that site. Not everyone has the ability to share photos. I couldn't figure out how to take the picture AND post it on the thread, but NOW I HAVE THAT ABILITY, and I no longer have the game, handheld, NOR THE TOWN. :(
I am upset that now I cannot prove my point...

Despite that incident, it was a memorable experience.

3) GC Version: My favorite of them all! I wish I could share every experience, but it is too much. I have about 28 towns (ha!), with a ton of progress on most of them.

Things:

a) I have an obsession with the Arapaima. I still find it crazy, looking at it in the water. The first couple times I that shadow, my bones chilled. The second encounter gave me my fear of any big, dark things appearing out of nowhere. I was uber startled. my heart jolted severely, causing pain in my stomach, and I was all white. The Arapaima shadow just came up out of nowhere, looking enormous, and... god. It truly scar(r)ed me.

This post will probably be updated in the future. I only have so much patience.

I hope that they have fixed the grass erosion problem which City Folk had. Damn that was annoying, especially in winter.
I'm Pretty sure I should put something here...
