But the article you listed does state that not everything using the Wii's wifi will become broken. Like, you can still use Netflix and Amazon Prime. It also says that games that use the online features will still be playable.
So I THINK they're just disconnecting it from some stuff like Forecast, News, Check Mii out, all that stuff.
And recently, Nintendo has been sending messages to Wiis talking about how cool the Wii U is. Shutting down these programs on the Wii might be a way to get people to purchase a Wii U. Seeing as how these programs are one way or another reworked onto other programs on the Wii U.
But, hey, I don't know. Anything's possible.
