3DS recommendations

Postby Konradix » June 20th, 2013, 1:40 pm

So yeah, I'm getting a 3DS and I want games for it. And because I cannot choose at all, I want to know your recommendations. These games can be 3DS or DS as I've missed the DS console (yes, kill me). Now for the games I was thinking of picking up:
- Mario Kart 7
- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
- Kingdom Hearts 358/2 (And I'm playing chronologically, so no KH3D)
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Yes I missed N64 too, kill me)
- Starfox 64 3D

Of course post your own suggestions as well.
This topic may be unnesessairy. Just maybe...

- Syzygy Labs
- Maybe some sort of Metroidvania level
- Sneaking level
- A mystery

- Mario Kart 7 - Not only is it a portable mario kart which is always fun, it has amazing tracks and many customizable options for your cart that makes the game fun to play. The online part is my favourite.

- Animal Crossing: New Leaf - This game isn't for everyone, I realize that, but it's still an amazing game, probably the best of the series. It's a great game to play on a past time, and there's so many things to do I can't explain them all. It's a laidback game and there is no shooting or fighting in general, just you being a good ol' mayor running a very customizable town.

- Kid Icarus: Uprising - I never finished the game because I lost it in the washing machine but afaik it's a good game.

-Fire Emblem - I never bought it and I only know it's a good game because of all the people praising it.

- LoZ: OoT - Well it's as good as the NES version, and even better.

I have Kingdom Hearts 358/2, and it was an alright game. Definitely nowhere near the best game of the series, but it was okay.

Maybe I could use some recommendations as well. I don't know what to get for my birthday.

For Kingdom Hearts, if you have a PS3 you might as well just wait for the ''movie'' version of 358/2 days to come out. 358/2 Days was my first KH game but it isn't the very best. You should wait for all those PS3 remakes to come out, i've heard they're remaking KH 2 which will probably have Re:Coded and maybe a Birth By Sleep movie.
Don't buy KH3D, after you play the rest of the series don't buy 3D because that game, in my opinion, wasn't the best. You can't get abilities unless your Dream Eaters have them and the game doesn't have anything important until the very end, which will completely confuse the entire series for you. Just watch the cutscenes online or something...

OoT is good, but not the best. Since it still looks blocky like the N64 and stuff. Idk though, it was pretty good.

I recommend Fire Emblem: Awakening. One of the best 3DS games i've played so far.
I'm thinking about getting Animal Crossing, though.

Also Raz, you lost a game in a washing machine... How?

Fire Emblem Awakening is pretty much a must-have. Trust me, it's well worth the money you pay for it. Hell, I'd almost recommend buying a downloaded copy so you'll always have it with you.

Ocarina of Time 3D and Mario Kart 7 are really good too, I highly recommend those, as well as Kid Icarus Uprising, though the controls could take a while to get used to. Super Mario 3D Land is another good choice, you can never go wrong with the platforming games like that.

However, I'd stray away from Sticker Star if I were you. The whole concept of the game is pretty dumb and I got bored of it in like the second world.

Starfox 64 3D is okay, but I'd hold off on that if you're short on cash.

Yes finally someone here who understands that Sticker Star isn't a good game.
And yes, Fire Emblem should be the game you should get. There's a ton of replay value and stuff,
Games I don't recommend are Sticker Star and KH:3D
I mean, KH:3D is still ok but there are better games out there.

>mfw nobody has mentioned Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

♥♥♥♥ you all :3

But really, if you played the first one and loved it, pick it up for sure. If you haven't played the first, that's cool too, here's your chance. If you hated the first one, I feel like Dark Moon improved on a lot of the things that detracted from the first- still a game you should at least borrow from a friend.

But yeah, Sticker Star was terrible, 3/10. Neat concept what with the stickers and self-refence to the papery nature of the world thing going on, but almost everything else was poorly done. The combat system, while neat, needs a lot of tweaks- Mario can no longer select which enemy to attack, and partners? Who needs them? Not Mario, apparently. Bosses? Pretty damn awesome if you didn't need to essentially guess which attack would cripple them before they cripple you, BEFORE YOU EVER ENCOUNTER THEM. There is almost no skill for anything above minibosses, instead relying on guesswork and luck. Level design was adequate, although the SMW style overview map kinda ruins the traditional vibe set up by the last prequels. If there's one thing I did love about this game, though, it's the music. Not much, but pretty much the only redeeming factor for a very disappointing game. I've played worse, but rarely, and never from Nintendo.

In fairness 3/10 may be a little harsh, but I mean a little. Max of 4.5/10. It's definitely below average.

Dark Moon is good too, don't know why I forgot to mention that one. Speaking of which, I still haven't beaten it yet. I'm at the final mansion, second mission, but every time I try it, either I get frustrated and can't figure out what to do, or I have to do something in the middle of while I'm doing that and eventually end up not feeling like completing the mission.

That's pretty much my only complaint with Dark Moon: there's no quicksave a la Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (or Bookmarks in Fire Emblem Awakening). That would've made the game better imo, especially for the longer missions.

Once you figure out how to do a mission you can pretty much speedrun most of the levels in under 10 minutes.
