Why are you guys worrying about it?

Are you guys 7 and younger?
it was made so kids under the age of 7 could play, and the flip was removed so the kids wouldn't break it.

Only buy it if you're low on money or you're buying it for your kid.
It's not that hard.

It's made for punk little kids who wanna turn on the 3D when their parents told them not to. So now those little butts can't do it against their parent's parent's permission. Also, the hinges were removed, since it was made for younger kids, so they don't snap the thing in half. Having no hinges on a Nintendo handheld isn't that new of an idea:

I thought the 2-DS was a joke by some guys on YouTube.

So, its like downgrading? What? What next? PS3.5?

Maybe Nintendo isn't motivated enough. It doesn't have competition (rivals) but then again... Yeah you all know.

Um...

Oh my ♥♥♥♥ god

It's for little kids that tend to break things. If you're not a little kid that tends to break things or a parent of a little kid that tends to break things, then don't buy something for little kids that tend to break things.

Think about it practically for a second; We have two wood samples. One is a solid 2x4 plank, the other is split into 2 2x2, but screwed/nailed/glued together. What's easier to break?

Now, onto the removal of the 3D feature. I've been playing videogames and watch TV since I was three. I've stopped the TV part of that around the end of middle school, though you can safely say I watched/played with little inbetween. My glasses are about .25 in/ .5 cm thick. Do you really want every single little kid out there to end up with vision as terrible as this?

Finally, onto the button placement. This should be fairly obvious, but I may as well explain anyway. You're carrying a box. Where do you hold it from? The two bottom corners closest to you? No, otherwise, the box will fall unless you're leaning backwards. You hold it from the bottom middle. That gives you an equal amount of control and comfort.

Really, it's not stupid when you think about it logically.

You know what

After looking at the trailer for a second time and that French video up there I'm actually liking the design, and start thinking it's a pretty smart move from Nintendo. For the same reasons I mentioned earlier: more people will buy it for the games and because it is affordable, and because it is released at the same time as Pokémon X and Y, which will probably a worldwide success.

And I'm ready to bet a few bucks that there will be Pokémon Special Nintendo 2DS with Pokémon X and Y with the console.
