Pokemon seems interesting,so I would like to try it out. However, there are many Pokemon games.
Which one do you recommend?

Well obviously the first one I would recommend is the most recent one, Pokemon X and Y. With over 450 (?) Pokémon, new revamped graphics, trainer customisation and Fairy-Type pokemons, the 6th Generation should be a good place to start (plus the region is based on France so it's 20% cooler amirite guys).

Now I'm sure many of other members would suggest Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 because it is considered to be one of the best Pokemon games (at least the game with the best storyline). There are also a lot of Pokémon too and the graphics are also pretty sweet. The last advantage is that it doesn't require a 3DS admitting you don't own one as of now and don't want to get one soon, since it's a DS game. You'll still be able to play it on a 3DS though, so that's cool.

I'm not a hater of the new ones, but if you start from 3rd Gen (Emerald) or 1st (Fire Red), or perhaps HeartGold/SoulSilver you won't feel like there is a 'downgrade'. if you know what I mean. There are some games that, if you've played a sequel of and then come back to the original, it feels more clunky/less polished. And while pokemon doesn't have that much differing in terms of core gameplay, you may get that kind of feel depending on who you are. I don't know, maybe you'll be fine with coming back to the older titles.

However I don't know how available they will be. If you are looking to buy Pkmn without really searching at stores, X and Y will be the most available. And having said all that, X and Y is still amazing. You can play with your pokemon, and since it's the most relevant and has online capabilities, you'll be able to trade and battle with others.

Heart Gold/Soul Silver is my recommendation.

To start off, I would say that you could start off anywhere, though it's a bit easier with the newer ones. Like Konradix said, the older ones are fine, but the newer releases have more polish to them. I'd recommend picking up the remakes of older games if you want to get some kind of taste on how Pokémon started off (or you can play the originals if you want to get retro). However, my favorite entries so far would be Heart Gold/Soul Silver, as well as Black 2 and White 2, since they have a lot of content, and since they're somewhat recent, they shouldn't be much of a problem transitioning from those to Pokémon X & Y.

For Heart Gold and Soul silver, you need to transfer it to B/W or B/W2 first.

When I said transitioning I did not mean Pokémon transfers, but the transition between different games as a player.

Sorry I didn't mention these in my first post.
I would like to find those Pokemon games that-

  • have no crappy graphics
  • good storyline
  • great battle system
  • lots of things to explore

Any recommendations?

HG/SS has all of that except the storyline is not nearly as good as B/W and B/W2.
