Before we get to point of Nwolf getting dissapointed because he dreamt too far *is shot*, please let's us remember that effects depends of the game, and maybe some of the figurines might have no effects on some games.
Althought for the case of MK8, it could be a way to have new (Mario series, again to shoot down Nwolf's expectations *is backstabbed*) characters like dry bones and bowser jr.

Yeah uh they never said anything about being able to play characters like fox and kirby in MK8, like tnt said, it's dependant on the game.

Also, the more I look at the link you shown, I think every game compatible with amiibo will have their own series of figurines, as for the phrase "The first series will be for SSB WiiU"
